• Bunola boxer Rod Salka will finally get his shot at a title fight. Salka had hoped to get a shot at the title after he went to California to watch the Figueroa-Belmontes fight. Omar Figueroa, who won that bout, wasn’t interested in going into the ring against Salka. Salka will get his shot at a belt at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center where he is scheduled to fight WBA, WBC and The Ring Welterweight Champion Danny “Swift” Garcia. Salka, who holds several lightweight titles, said “It’s crazy because I went out there hoping to get a world title fight. But to get a super fight, that’s a much bigger deal for me, but I’ll take it.

• T he Belle Vernon American Legion batters collected their third double of the sixth inning when a player yelled from the dugout, “It ain’t over yet!” That declaration proved to be true as Belle Vernon battled back from a six-run deficit to crawl within one run of Charleroi three different times during the game. However, Belle Vernon committed 10 errors and Charleroi capitalized just enough to stave off the surging Sidewinders to win the game, 14-13. Charleroi coach Tom Hartman said, “We took advantage of their errors whereas the shoe has been on the other foot all season. I was getting a little nervous there.”
• Things didn’t look good for the shorthanded Rostraver team against Fayette County League rival Bud Murphy’s. The team was forced to use a pitcher in left field and an inexperienced catcher behind the plate. Fortunately, Ryan Shetterly shined for Rostraver on the mound. Shetterly pitched a complete game, giving up just five hits and striking out eight batters to produce a 3-1 win at the DiVirgilio Complex. Rostraver has now won seven of its last eight contests. Team manager Dan Palm said, “Shetterly pitched phenomenally and our infield defense was incredible. Things are rolling in the right direction now for us.”
