• Mitch’s Bail Bonds dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker in 10 innings to visiting New York Pizza in Fayette County Baseball League action. The Jailbirds trailed 4-0 but scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on a two run single by Jacob Newman.
They tied up the game in the bottom of the seventh on RBI singles by Dom Peroni and Luke Mollis. Mitch’s then loaded the bases with one out with a chance to win the game but the next two batters popped up and grounded out. For New York Pizza, Eric Fudala blasted a solo home run in the top of the 10th for the eventual winning run and handing the Jailbirds their eighth consecutive loss.
• Farmers Insurance showed that they are the top dogs in the Budd Grebb Memorial Summer Basketball League. Monessen’s Lavelle Rush scored a game-high 21 points, including three 3-pointers to lead Farmers to their second consecutive win, 78-43, over Campy’s Pizza. Rush flashed his speed around the blacktop and tallied eight steals to set up his points.
Noah Brown and Ringgold’s Luke Beveridge each scored 14 points with Cameron Sarber pitching in 10 points. League commissioner and Farmer’s coach Dana Zajicek was pleased with his team’s performance. “Our guys have been playing together for the last few years, they play well together. Our guys are playing great defense.”

• For five innings front-running Charleroi Ponderosa was having problems with Canonsburg’s Chuck Stevenson in their Fayette County Baseball League West Division contest. Canonsburg was leading 5-0 and Stevenson was holding Ponderosa hitless. The last two innings were another story. Charleroi scored two runs in the sixth and then exploded for nine more in the seventh on their way to an 11-6 come-from-behind triumph. The win upped their lead over the losers to two full games. Don Hartman was the star of the game, belting out two two-run homers in the big inning.
• Dunlevy upped its record to 5-2-1 in the Greater Pittsburgh Soccer League with a 3-1 win over Beadling’s under-18 team. The Redbirds spotted Beadling a 1-0 lead before coming back with three goals in the first half. John Stivoric started the scoring for Dunlevy with a header ff a corner kick. Joe Bosley’s indirect free kick put the Redbirds ahead to stay with
Chad Roule stealing a pass and beating two defenders to close the scoring. Dunlevy hit the crossbar four times in the second half. Vince Russell assisted on the Redbirds first two scores. Midfielders
Mike Ruddy and Breezy Tipton and forwards Mark Tuccelli and Alex Ametquita stood out for the Redbirds.
