Organizers are happy with the results of a Back the Blue fundraiser held last month to benefit Charleroi Regional Police.
The fundraiser took place June 20 at the Riverhouse Cafe in Charleroi.
From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., 10% of food sales directly went to the police department.
There was also a 50/50 drawing and a basket auction featuring more than 30 items that were donated by businesses, individuals and other organizations from the community.
Organizer Nancy Ellis said the event was well attended.
“It was excellent,” she said. “We had police officers there, their family members, business owners and organizations that came in and ate for lunch and dinner, as well as so many families from the community in general.”
While the restaurant remained crowded, take-out orders also helped.
“People who could not stop in ordered take out for themselves or their families so it was really great all around,” Ellis said. “We want to thank the community so much for coming out to show their support for our police.”
A total of $3,671 was raised.
Ellis said after talking to CRPD chief Chad Zelinsky, the money will likely be used to replace outdated equipment.
“It’s probably going to be for equipment,” Ellis said. “The chief said the costs of things are just skyrocketing, and there are different things they need.”
Unlike years past, the event did not feature guest bartenders this time around, but familiar faces are likely to pop up for the next fundraiser.
“We just didn’t have time to put all of that together but that is something we’ve been known for so it will definitely be back next time,” Ellis
