George A. Joseph Jr., 83, of Monessen, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, sur rounded by his f ami ly. George was born in Monessen, on Aug. 14, 1940, a son of the late George Joseph Sr. and Ann Susko Joseph. George was a 1959 graduate of Monessen High School and a 1961 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in horticulture and landscaping. While young, George worked alongside his father, George Sr., founder of Joseph’s Nursery of Monessen, and eventually took over the family business. This year, Joseph’s is celebrating its 70th year in business. For the last 40 years, George proudly worked alongside his late wife, Alyce; two sons, George III and Michael; sonin- law Rick; and granddaughter, Kristen. George and Alyce would tell you it was a family affair — all eight grandchildren were always at the nursery working and helping with the business. He had an eye and passion for turning residential and commercial landscapes into beautiful transformations, and would proudly tell you while driving by that house or business. George was dedicated to his work and giving joy through designing beautiful landscapes. Surviving are George and Alyce’s four children, George III and wife Tammy Joseph, Laura and husband Stan (Rick) Malarbi, Kelly and husband Jon Turik, and Michael and wife Rebecca Joseph. George and Alyce adored their eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe), Kristen (Chuck), Monica (Cameron), Alexis (Nick), Jessica (Donnie), Jonathan, Nicolas and Lukas; as well as three great-grandchildren, Sadie, Violet and Austin. Also surviving are a brother, Dr. Andrew Joseph and wife Diane; and sisters, Sandra Cooper and Cindy Phillippi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alyce; and brother, John Joseph. The Joseph family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Pacella, Nurse Miller and the rest of his staff at UPMC for their care over the years — it is greatly appreciated. Another thank you to our uncle, Dr. Andrew Joseph, who has helped our family over the years. Lastly, thank you to Melanie, who took care of Alyce and helped George over the years as well. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
