• Defending Grebb League champions BeeGraphix lost for the first time in two years in a 73-58 rout to Farmers Insurance. But Farmers coach Naz Victoria said there should be an asterisk next to the win. The BeeGraphix team was missing two of their top scorers, Elijah Minnie and Dayshore Majors. Minnie is currently the league’s top point scorer. Victoria said, “I would have liked to do what we did tonight with both Elijah and Dayshore in the lineup. We didn’t beat the team BeeGraphix really is. A win is a win and every team has some guys out sometimes, we hope to have a match with them in the finals with all of their guys and all of ours.”
• Several local youth golfers placed at the Southwest Pa. Junior Golf League Tournament at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Rostraver. Gunnar Riley of Charleroi notched a 1-under 71 to finish second in the boys 15 to 17 division while Grindstone’s Lindsay Sethman was tops with a 44 in the girls 11-and-under division (9 holes). Other local second-place finishers were Annika Erdely of Fayette City (92 in the girls 14-15 division), Cameron Puskarich (57 in the 9-hole 11-and-under boys division).

• Charleroi and California both have their backs to the wall in the Fayette County American Legion baseball league. Both teams have to win today or their seasons are over. Neither Charleroi nor California got off to a good start in the first round of playoff games Sunday. In seven inning contests, Charleroi bowed 11-0 to Colonial at Rowe’s Run Park, while California went down to an 11-1 setback at Carmichaels. In the other first-round game, Connellsville clobbered Point Marion, 9-2. Jody Wilkerson will be on the mound for Charleroi at Vet’s Field. California will return to Wanna B Park in Carmichaels.

• Red-hot Flasks continued its torrid pace in the Belle Vernon-Rostraver Softball League with a stunning 8-7 upset win over first-place Mint Lounge. Todd Rullo’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning drove home Patsy Altomari with the game-winning run as Flasks scored twice to overcome a 7-6 deficit. Offensively, Herbie Lippincott had a triple and a double for the winners while
Frank Francia and Luke Glasser turned in stellar defensive efforts in the field.
