Firefighters battle two intense overnight blazes
Fires destroyed a vacant house in Fallowfield Township and caused a man to be taken to a hospital in Nottingham Township.
Several Mon Valley fire departments remained on the scene of an intense structure fire at an abandoned home in Fallowfield Township into the early hours of Monday morning.
The call came in after 9:30 p.m. Sunday as flames started to show at a vacant home on Fourth Street extension.
Crews from Fallowfield, Charleroi, Lock 4, Monessen No. 1, Bentleyville and Stockdale arrived to find the house consumed by fire. Rostraver West Newton Emergency services was also on scene to assist.
Chief Anthony Fleming said suppression efforts began immediately as crews worked to contain the fire and keep it from damaging a home next door.
Because of the quick work of firefighters, the neighboring home sustained only minor exterior damage from the heat.
The state fire marshal was called in to investigate, but a cause has not been determined.
As Mon Valley wrapped up the scene in Fallowfield Township, other neighboring departments worked to put out a structure fire in Nottingham Township that left one man injured.
Finleyville, Valley Inn, both departments from North Strabane, Peters Township, Bentleyville, Ellsworth, South Strabane and Library were called for Hamtom Road for a working structure fire overnight.
The call was reported around 1:46 a.m.
County 911 dispatchers told our news partners at WTAE that a man had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for lower extremity burns.
The cause of that fire has not been determined.
Crews at the Nottingham Township fire were assisted on scene by Peters Township and Canonsburg EMS.
