A 19-year-old man who was involved in a long police standoff Wednesday in Monongahela has been charged with multiple felonies, including a murder charge, along with one misdemeanor.
Emmanuel Caden Houghton of Carnegie, Pa., is charged with attempted criminal homicide, attempted aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer firearms, and a charge of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
Houghton is being held in Washington County Jail without bail, court records state. He was denied bail due to being considered a threat to public safety.
Houghton will have a pr e l imi nary hearing before Judge Kelly J. Stewart at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 28.
At 6:42 a.m. Wednesday, Monongahela Police responded to a call from Starsha Malek, who reported two vehicles had been stolen from her home. The vehicles are a 2011 Yukon and a 2019 Acura.
Police tracked Houghton in the Acura to Chess Street in Monongahela and chased the car through New Eagle and to Union Township. During the car chase, Houghton shot several gunshots at police officers from the stolen vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.
Officers lost Houghton after he was seen heading back to New Eagle, according to the affidavit. Houghton was tracked to Monongahela on Third Street, but officers abandoned the search at 1:30 p.m.
They received a call at 3:26 p.m. from a resident on Third Street saying Houghton was at the location with two firearms.
Authorities set up a perimeter at 236 Third St., where Houghton eventually surrendered without injury through the use of SWAT tactics.
Houghton has been charged with multiple crimes in Allegheny County. Some date to August 2023, and the most recent is last month.
Houghton is charged in Allegheny County with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking of movable property after an incident just last month on July 14, according to court records.
Houghton was also on probation after an incident last year according to court records. After an incident in August 2023, Houghton was charged with terroristic threats and simple assault, court records state.
