It’s a new season and that means the Mon Valley Independent’s annual game-picking contest is back.
Huddle Picks will see eight contests, five MVI writers, and three guest pickers go head to head each week letting the masses know who they think the teams to beat are in some of the week’s biggest high school, college and NFL football games.
This season, sports editor Jeremy Sellew will be looking to defend his title after springing ahead late during last season.
The annual last-place trophy will have a new owner after this season for the first time in four years. The proverbial cellar the last three seasons belonged to former assistant sports editor Jose Negron – who has happily given his blessing for the trophy to find a new home this year.
Joining the sports editor will be sports writer Liam Belan, freelancers Adam Brewer and Andrew White and MVI Live’s Alex Lyons.
The guests this season are an impressive group to say the least.
First up is defending WPIAL Class 3A girls golf champion Mya Morgan. Morgan, a junior at Elizabeth Forward, has won numerous golf tournaments over the years and is one of the best young golfers to come out of the Mon Valley. But is she ready for the pressure of Huddle Picks?
Next up is Monessen police chief Dave Yuhasz. Yuhasz is a big fan of the MVI and the sports department. There’s rumors going around that he’ll be calling for a “Mega Desk” if he can finish in first place.
Last but definitely not least, former Brian Herman protege and current Pat McAfee Show correspondent Mark Kaboly will take his shot at picking winners.
Kaboly, who covers the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFL for the McAfee show, is also a McKeesport Daily News legend. He knows the NFL, but does he still have a pulse on high school ball?
