Free Indeed Ministry to hold outreach car wash

Glassport’s inaugural Community Day is set for Saturday at Honor Roll Park, 440 Monongahela Ave., Glassport. The event is free and open to residents and nonresidents.
While the event will include many fun activities for all ages, the main focus will be providing access to a wide variety of social services. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Glassport Community Development Corp.and Merakey, a developmental, behavioral health, and education non-profit provider, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will also include free concerts featuring local bands “Dirty Shirley” and “This Indecision” starting at 6 p.m. There will also be vendors, food, a gift basket auction, raffles and games.
Free Indeed Ministry, 401 Second St., Monongahela, will host an outreach car wash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Dierken’s Pharmacy parking lot, across from Sheetz in Monongahela. The donation is $10, and prayer will be available to anyone who requests it. All youth and adults are encouraged to participate in this fun fellowship. Anything Goes Book Club to meet Tuesday
The Anything Goes Book Club will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Monongahela Area Library, 813 W. Main St., Monongahela.
Participants can discuss and recommend whatever book they have read or are reading.

Kid’s Kitchen class to take place at Carnegie library
The Kid’s Kitchen will be open 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Carnegie Free Library of McKeesport, 1507 Library Ave., McKeesport. Attendees will make candy out of mashed potatoes.

Crafting event to benefit White OakAnimal Safe Haven
A wooden caddy craft, sip and donate event will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Hometique gift shop, 1201 Long Run Road, White Oak. Cost is $50 for the BYOB event.
The proceeds of the evening of crafting will support the White Oak Animal Safe Haven.

Taste the spirits at Valley Inn VFD event The Valley Inn Volunteer Fire Department’s inaugural VILA Taste the Spirits Fall Festival event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Valley Inn Volunteer Fire Department’social hall, 34 Snyder Ave., Monongahela.
Featured will be local wineries, distilleries and breweries. Admission is $10. There will be a charcuterie board challenge. Voting will take place at 2:15 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the board with the most votes.

Westmoreland County libraries participating in network food drive
The Westmoreland Library Network is joining the Westmoreland Food Bank food drive 9/11 week of service from Sept. 9-13.
Local food drop offs will be available at the Belle Vernon, Monessen, Rostraver and West Newton public libraries.
As helpers within Westmoreland County, the libraries will be focusing on Hamburger Helper and other boxed meals.

Donora drive-up food distribution today
St. Paul Baptist Church, 49 S. McKean Ave., Donora, will hold its monthly food distribution 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until food is gone) today. Proof of income, documentation or identification is not required to receive food. Reservations are not required. Guests will be served on a first-come first-serve basis.
Participants will have to complete a short registration process. Food bank volunteers will assist. Participants can register onsite to serve as a proxy to pick up food for a neighbor, family member or friend.
All guests are encouraged to complete the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) self-declaration once a year to receive food. This information will only be used to provide food and help improve service. While completing a self-declaration is not required, some of the food items at the distribution events require guests to have filled out the self-declaration. After completing the form, staff will issue the participant a pass card at the next food distribution. Guests will be asked to then bring their card back to each event they attend so staff can accurately record visits and plan distributions.

New Eagle VFD holding fall mum fundraiser
The New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary is holding a fall mum fundraiser. A presale will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6, and the sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sellout on Sept. 7 at the New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department, 165 Main St. Cost is $10 per mum for a 9-inch pot from the Lenik Greenhouse.
