Charleroi Area seeking candidates for vacant board seat
The school board has 30 days to fill the vacancy.
Charleroi School Board members have 30 days to fill a vacancy left after the sudden passing of late school board president Ken Wiltz last week.
Wiltz, 79, had served 49 years on the school board, and held the position of president for more than two decades.
Earlier this week, directors unanimously selected Barbara Pepper to replace Wiltz as president on the board.
Pepper became vice president in July when Adele Hopkins stepped down from the role.
Elaine Pappasergi was unanimously selected to serve as the board’s vice president.
But Wiltz’ death has still left a vacancy on the board.
District residents interested in serving are being asked to send letters of interest and qualifications to board Secretary Becky Kline as soon as possible.
Whoever is selected will fill a term on that board that will expire in December, and then could run for re-election for a four year term.
Letters of interest and qualifications must submitted by Aug. 30.
They can be mailed to the Charleroi Area School District, 125 Fecsen Drive Charleroi, PA 15022 or by e-mail at beckykline@charleroisd.org Interviews for interested candidates will be held 3 p.m. Sept. 17 ahead of the September voting meeting where board members are expected to make a decision on who will fill the vacancy.
The vacancy has to be filled within 30 days.
There will be four seats up for reelection next year, including, Pepper, Joe Caruso and Thomas Nutting and whoever is selected to fill the vacancy.
