Tigers, Warriors suffer tough losses; Bentworth, Yough roll

Trailing 21-7 entering the fourth quarter, the Uniontown Lake stormed back with 14 points and eventually pulled out a thrilling 36-35 double-overtime win at Woodland Hills’ Wolvarena over McKeesport (0-1).
The Tigers’ Kemon Spell had 84 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries while Anthony Boyd and Anthony Cromerdie added rushing scores of their own.
Uniontown Lake’s (1-0) Ty DeGeorge posted three rushing touchdowns as well, including two in overtime. He also had the game-winning two-point conversion that brought the final score to 36-35 in favor of the Blue Streaks.
Bentworth 48, Brownsville 0 It was all Bearcats Friday night as Bentworth (1-0) opened its season with an emphatic victory.
Ben Hays finished with 141 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries for Bentworth in the victory.
Alex Leichty, Anthony Washington and Ty Watson also posted rushing scores. Watson also threw a touchdown pass to Lucas Burt in the victory.
West Mifflin 17, Elizabeth Forward 16
West Mifflin scored 14 points in the final quarter and avoided overtime after a bobbled snap on the potential game-tying extra point for Elizabeth Forward.
West Mifflin (1-0) struck first with a field goal, but EF (0-1) scored the next 10 points with a field goal and a touchdown run from Charlie Nigut.
From there, West Mifflin’s Zahir Ismaeli found paydirt from 25 yards and Armand Mondohih did the same on a 43-yard scamper.
But the Warriors stayed in it and battled, with quarterback Ryan Messina connecting with Nigut for a 12-yard touchdown as time expired in regulation. Needing the extra point to force overtime, the special teams gaffe ended the game in favor of West Mifflin.
Yough 40, Brentwood 0
Senior quarterback Raidon Kuroda started his final campaign with a huge game against Brentwood Friday night.
Kuroda threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the Cougars (1-0) dominated Brentwood (0-1).
Aiden Shaffer caught two touchdown passes from Kuroda while Ryan Sarver accounted for two scores as well.
Yough ran for 227 yards in the blowout win.
T. Jefferson 63, Baldwin 12 Thomas Jefferson scored two defensive touchdowns and seven more on offense as they traveled to neighboring Baldwin and dominated.
A pick-six from Nathan Farison and a scoop-and-score combined with Emmet Forte’s 8-yard touchdown run to give the Jaguars (1-0) a 21-0 advantage after one.
Forte added two more rushing touchdowns in the second while Luke Kosko connected with Kane Eggerton and Gavin Miller for scores before halftime. Tyler Eber’s 25-yard touchdown gave TJ a 56-12 lead at the break.
Elias Phiri scored to make it 63-12 and cap the scoring.
Golf Girls Elizabeth Forward 179, Connellsville 223
Behind a 34 from Mya Morgan and a 44 from Sydney Boyd, Elizabeth Forward dominated Connellsville in Section 3-3A golf action.
Annalise Didjunas (48) and Alizabeth Leezer (53) also shot well for the Warriors (50, 4-0) in the victory.
For Connellsville, Katie Atz shot a 51, Rylee Leasher finished with a 56, Abigail Humbert had a 57 and Isabella Nussbaumer posted a 59.
Belle Vernon 194, Derry 244 Vittoria Scaramucci (46), Felicia Kruppa (47) and Sydney Stark (48) posted strong rounds for Belle Vernon (1-4, 1-3) in a strong win during Section 1-2A golf Friday.
Haley Farrah slotted in well with a 53 while Ava Dudzinski was a no-count at 57.
For Derry, Jaden Geary had a 58, Chaeli Keenan shot a 61, Alexa Kahl posted 62 and Piper Ray finished with a 63. Dacey Nicely was a no-count at 68.
