Summit Academy beats Frazier to snap 17-game skid
For only the second time in 30 games, Summit Academy picked up a win on the football field.
Demetrius Crosby scored on touchdown runs of 69 and 13 yards, the second of which provided the winning margin in the fourth quarter, as Summit Academy (1-0) snapped a 17-game losing streak with a nonconference win.
Anthony Hammond also had a TD run for Summit Academy.
Derek Diamond scored a rushing touchdown and Andrew Bandish caught a scoring strike from Brady Secrest for Frazier (0-1).
The Commodores host Mapletown Friday for their home opener.
Soccer Boys Bentworth 3, Trinity 1
Ryan Moessner scored twice and Andrew Vipperman added the other marker as the defending Class 1A champions picked up a win at the Canon-McMillan Showcase Saturday.
Adam Moessner, Dillan Colbert and Isaac Reynolds each tallied assists for the Bearcats (1-0).
Bentworth led 2-0 at halftime.
“It’s always rewarding to see hard work from practice translate to the field,” Bentworth coach Nick Malarbi said. “Trinity is a solid and experienced team. My guys played hard for 80 minutes, that’s all I can ask for this early in the season.”
The Bearcats host Trinity Christian today up on the hill in Ellsworth.
Ringgold 4, Elizabeth Forward 3
The Rams picked up an impressive and thrilling win over the visiting Warriors in the first-ever boys game at the Moe Rosensteel Memorial Kickoff Classic. Nick Evans and Lucas Wukovich each had two goals to lead the Rams (1-0) to the win. Jack Brodak finished with a pair of assists and Mike Stasko and Izaiah Wilson added a helper for Ringgold.
The Warriors (0-1) got a pair of goals from Aidan Davis and another by Luca Valerio in the losing effort. Dom Cavalier and Ethan Childers each finished with assists for EF.
The Rams travel to Albert Gallatin and the Warriors host South Allegheny in section openers Tuesday.
South Allegheny 2, Serra Catholic 1
The Gladiators (1-1) closed their opening- season tournament with a win over the visiting Eagles Sunday.
Eli Noel had a goal and assist for South Allegheny to lead the offense.
Caleb Jackowski added a goal and Adam Jackowski added a helper for the Gladiators.
Serra Catholic’s lone goal came from Brayden Graham.
In the team’s season openers Saturday, Graham had a pair of goals in the Eagles’ 3-2 loss to Derry.
The Gladiators were shut out by visiting Southmoreland, 4-0, to open the tournament.
East Allegheny 4, McKeesport 3 (2OT)
The Wildcats got the best of the Tigers Saturday to open the season with a double-overtime win.
Scoring goals for McKeesport (0-1) were Ronald Tucari (2) and Jose Franchi.
East Allegheny’s Tymere Coberson scored the game-winning goal in the 95th minute.
Other goal scorers for the Wildcats (10) were Aiden Goyke, Jordan Rondue and Cayden Yusko.
The Tigers open Section 2-3A play Tuesday at home against Trinity at 5:30 p.m.
Girls Upper St. Clair 5, Thomas Jefferson 1
Sami Maglicco had the lone goal for the Jaguars (1-1) as they suffered a defeat to the Panthers at the South Hills Classic at South Park High School Sunday.
South Allegheny 2, California 1
The Gladiators (1-1) closed their season-opening tournament with a win over California (0-2) Sunday. No game information was reported.
Yough 5, S. Allegheny 0 Yough 10, California 1
The Cougars (2-0) started the season with two wins, topping the Gladiators Saturday and blasting the Trojans Sunday.
