Ringgold golfers fall to Connellsville

GOLF Section 2-3A Connellsville 210, Ringgold 249
Evan Callaway had the low score of the round with a 38, but it wasn’t enough for Ringgold to grab a section win against Connellsville Wednesday.
Brice Kowall shot a 49, Trevor Benson had a 50, Evan Anderson finished with a 53 and Brandon Nguyen shot a 59 in the loss.
For Connellsville, Ethan Porreca shot a 39, Derek Routzahn finished with a 40, Eli Armstrong had a 42, Matthew Firestone finished at a 43 and Michael Roscart carded a 46.
Section 8-2A Elizabeth Forward 195, Shady Side Academy 196 Elizabeth Forward moved to 8-2, 5-1 in section. The Warriors handed Shady Side Academy (7-1, 5-1) their first loss of the season.
Frazier 208, Yough 233 Frazier picked up a section win in Wednesday’s all Mon Valley affair.
Dylan Keilbach led the Commodores with a 36. Aidan Hardy shot a 41, Eli Cernuska finished with a 42, Travis Smith had a 43 and Tyler Monack managed a 46.
For Yough, Anthony Bonari paced the squad with a 42 while Landon O’Donnell was right behind him with a 44. Ian Toman, Nate Bell and Caden Doran all carded a 49.
Nonsection Avella 215, Bentworth 238
Bentworth was just unable to keep pace with Avella Wednesday in a nonsection defeat.
Ross Skerbetz shot a 44, Craig McDonald had a 47, Sam Wade finished with a 48, Corbin McMurray shot a 49 and Braidee Blackburn came in with a 50 for the Bearcats (1-8, 1-6).
For Avella (4-7, 1-5), Nate Cilia led the way with a 39 while Tristan Davis had a 40 right behind him. Kam Jeffers shot a 44, Tyler Jacobs had a 45 and Noah Greene shot a 47 on the day.
SOCCER Boys Section 2-3A Trinity 7, McKeesport 0 (Tuesday)
Trinity managed to score four goals in the first half and three more in the second half to overpower McKeesport in a victory Wednesday night.
McKeesport (0-2) coach Bryan Hoover said that Trinity is “a quality program with a team full of excellent players. They play with class and are led by a fine coaching staff. We look forward to our trip down to Trinity later in the season.”
Nonsection Springdale 10, California 0 (Tuesday) Springdale (1-0) opened its season with a dominant win over California (0-1) Wednesday with 10 goals. No other game information was reported.
Girls Section 4-3A Plum 2, Elizabeth Forward 0
Emily Grubich and Ali Joyce scored for Plum as the Mustangs managed to pick up a section win over Elizabeth Forward. Joyce scored from the penalty spot and Mia Nardo assisted Grubich’s effort.
Adysson Davis tallied 11 saves for the Warriors (1-1, 1-1) while Makenna Anderson and Malayna Smith combined to make five saves for Plum.
Section 1-2A South Park 7, Belle Vernon 1 Section 3-1A Carlynton 5, South Allegheny 0
South Park came up with an impressive section victory over Belle Vernon Wednesday night.
For the Leopards (1-1), Jordyn McDowell’s goal was assisted by Grace West.
Rory Bastedo and Skylar Salay combined to make 15 saves on South Park attackers during the match.
Carlynton managed two goals in the first half and three more in the second as they handed South Allegheny (1-2) its second loss of the season. No other game information was reported.
Aquinas Academy 7, Serra Catholic 1
Isabella Dumbroski scored a goal that was assisted by Lexie Genes, but it wasn’t enough for the Eagles to avoid a section setback against Aquinas Academy Wednesday night.
The victors managed two goals in the first half and five more in the second.
Nonsection Bentworth 4, Southmoreland 1
Bella Moyer had a goal and three assists as the Bearcats earned a hard-fought victory over a “very good Class 2A playoff team” according to coach Tyler Hamstra.
“Give our defense of Jesse Laskey, Emma Lusk, Meredith Allender, Makayla Jackson, Alex Jackson and Camille Sneith tons of credit. They played like a veteran group tonight,” Hamstra added.
Megan Keturakis, Brina Orsatti and Madelyn Johns also managed goals in the win.
