The August meeting of Monongahela Valley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was held at Smitty’s Grille in lower Speers. Eight members attended. Lunch was ordered from the restaurant menu.

Heather Hart read the invocation. Regent Beth Licciardello led the group in the ritual, flag pledge, American’s Creed and the Constitution Preamble. The president general’s message was read by Mica Van Fossen. The national defense report was read by chapter Secretary Grace Martin.
The business meeting began with the minutes of the previous meeting being read by Martin. Hart gave her treasurer’s report. The Indian minute was read by Patti Tomasic, and the flag minute by Martin.
Under officer reports, Van Fossen is working on the new supplemental schedule for the rest of the year and for 2025. She said the October and November 2024 meetings will be held at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House in Rostraver Township. The Christmas party in December will be held at the Serendipity Tea Room in lower Speers.
Van Fossen also reported on the Rada cutlery fundraising and deliveries of the orders last month.
Licciardello reminded members of the upcoming chapter meeting Sept. 14 at Mingo Creek Tavern, followed by the Patriot Marker and Memorial Service at Old Dutch Lutheran Cemetery to recognize the recently found seven graves of Revolutionary War soldiers.
Marian Segursky won the raffle prize, which was donated by Van Fossen.
With all business concluded, the meeting was turned over to Fran Ryland from the Bethel Fife and Drum Chapter. Dressed in colonial fashion, Ryland presented a program about the medical practices that were common in the colonial times and specifically regarding the medical care given to George Washington just before his death.
Hart gave the benediction and the meeting was adjourned.
