Bentworth girls suffer first loss; TJ girls roll over AG
The Bentworth girls suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday, dropping a close 1-0 decision to host Chartiers-Houston in a Section 2-1A contest.
The Bucs (6-2, 4-1) picked up the lone goal of the game in the waning minutes of the first half after a high-bouncing ball found its way behind Bearcats keeper Nita Anderson.
“Both sides were really up for the game. Both teams traded some momentum and possession. I felt like we had a great first half,” Bentworth coach Tyler Hamstra said. “Neither team had many great chances and I felt like the game would be decided on something like that.
“Soccer is a tough game, you don’t always get what you deserve from it.”
After having their six-game winning streak snapped, the Bearcats will look to start another one tonight at home when they host Ringgold.
Steel Valley 6, Charleroi 0 The Charleroi girls (0-7, 0-6) remained winless with a shut-out loss on the road to the Ironmen (4-4, 3-3) in Section 1-2A play.
No other game information was reported. The Cougars travel to first-place South Park Monday.
Thomas Jefferson 7, Albert Gallatin 0
Sami Maglicco netted a hat trick and Annmarie Graham and Ali King combined on a clean sheet as the Jaguars picked up a Section 3-3A win over the Colonials (1-6, 1-4).
The Jaguars (4-3, 3-1) picked up additional goals from Natalie Narr, Cece Wessel, Ashlynn Fry and Aislin Majoris.
Thomas Jefferson will travel to Moon Saturday for a non-section game.
Carlynton 10, Serra Catholic 0 The Cougars (7-2, 4-2) jumped out to a 7-0 lead at halftime in a Section 3-1A win over the Eagles (0-6, 0-5).
Serra Catholic will host East Allegheny at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Seton LaSalle 11, South Allegheny 0
The Gladiators (3-6, 1-5) were shut out on the road by the Rebels (5-1-2, 4-0-1) in Section 3-1A action.
South Allegheny travels to Ellis School today in non-section play.
Franklin Regional 2, West Mifflin 0
The Panthers (6-4, 5-1) picked up a win over the Titans (1-6-1, 0-5-1) in Section 4-3A play Wednesday.
West Mifflin will face Elizabeth Forward Monday in section play.
Bethel Park 1, Elizabeth Forward 0
The Warriors dropped a non-section road game to the Black Hawks (5-2-2).
Elizabeth Forward (2-4) will travel to West Mifflin Monday for a Section 4-3A match.
Golf Belle Vernon 180, Uniontown 218
The Leopards completed a perfect regular season after knocking off the Red Raiders at Uniontown Country Club.
Jordan Mocello and Jack Edwards claimed medalist honors for the Leopards, each firing a 33 to lead the way.
Seth Tomalski chipped in with a 36 for the Leopards (14-0, 12-0).
Austin Thomas led Uniontown (10-5, 8-3) with a 40. Brody Schiffbauer added a 41.
The Leopards are back in action at Duck Hollow Friday for the Fayette County Coaches Association tournament.
