No trips to West Coast for Pitt in ACC play
After a difficult stretch on the road early in the season, Pitt men’s basketball will start the new calendar year with three games against ACC opponents at Petersen Events Center during the first 11 days of 2025, commencing New Year’s Day.
The ACC released its 20game schedule for each team Tuesday night, and it offers coach Jeff Capel’s team another advantageous twist: Pitt will not visit the West Coast this season, despite the presence of ACC newcomers Stanford and California.
The conference season begins for the Panthers on Dec. 7 in Blacksburg, Va., against Virginia Tech. That’s the third of three consecutive games away from the Pete, including nonconference matchups at Ohio State on Nov. 29 and Mississippi State on Dec. 4.
Pitt won’t see the West Coast this season — that’s likely to change in 2026 — but California and Stanford are coming to Pittsburgh on Jan. 1 and 4, respectively.
After a stopover at Duke on Jan. 7, Pitt is back home Jan. 11 to play Louisville. Other home games in January will be Clemson on Jan. 18 and North Carolina on Jan. 28. The Panthers will be at Florida State on Jan. 15.
Starting Jan. 25 at Syracuse, Pitt plays four of six games on the road, including Wake Forest and North Carolina on Feb. 1 and 8, with a home game against Virginia on Feb. 3 in between the two. It ends with a road trip to ACC newcomer SMU on Feb. 11, the third game away from the Pete among the first four of February. That matches Pitt playing three of four games at home to open January.
Then, it’s back home for three of the final four games of February — Miami (Feb. 15), Syracuse (Feb. 18) and Georgia Tech (Feb. 25). Pitt will be at Notre Dame (Feb. 22), Louisville (March 1) and N.C. State (March 5) before concluding the regular season March 8 against Boston College.
The ACC Tournament will be played at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C., beginning March 11.
Long before the ACC season opens, Pitt will play an exhibition game against Point Park on Oct. 22 at The Pete.
Pitt opens its 11-game nonconference schedule Nov. 4 with a home game against Radford. The next four games are at home — Murray State (Nov. 8), Gardner- Webb (Nov. 11), West Virginia (Nov. 15) in the 191st Backyard Brawl and VMI (Nov. 18) as part of the Greenbrier Tip-Off.
Pitt will be one of four teams traveling to White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., for the continuation of the Greenbrier. The Panthers will play LSU on Nov. 22 and either UCF or Wisconsin on Nov. 24.
The Mississippi State game Dec. 4 will be part of the SEC/ACC Challenge.
The remainder of the nonconference schedule includes home games against Eastern Kentucky on Dec. 11 and Sam Houston State on Dec. 21.
