McKeesport’s Spinosi headed to St. Vincent Hall of Fame
McKeesport native Ron Spinosi was a dynamic, twoway force for the men’s basketball team. A four-year starter in the post, Spinosi amassed 1,018 points and a school-record 718 rebounds.
As team captain during the 1978-79 season, Spinosi averaged 14 points and 7.8 rebounds. He was awarded the 1979 Saint Vincent College E. Albert DeLuca Award for responsible and dependable student leadership.
A native of McKeesport, Spinosi graduated with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and a minor in education. He worked as a corrections officer at the Allegheny County Jail for more than 20 years before retiring.
In his free time, Spinosi enjoys gardening and landscaping. He collects Pittsburgh sports memorabilia and earned a Fan Cave Award from Primanti Bros. Restaurant. He also recently completely restored an antique Dodge Dart.
McKeesport hosting youth tennis clinic McKeesport Mayor Mike Cherepko invites area children and teens to take part in a youth tennis clinic Oct. 12 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Volunteers from the McKeesport Recreation Board will join City Administrator/Recreation Director Tom Maglicco and McKeesport Area High School Tennis Coach Dr. Vladimir Kovalchuk in teaching basic tennis skills.
Participants will practice drills and play short games. Equipment and snacks will be provided.
Gonzaga joining Pac-12 in all sports Rebuilding the Pac-12 Conference centered around football. It’ll be a pretty good basketball conference, too, after landing one of the perennial hoops powers on the West Coast.
Gonzaga will become the latest member of the rebuilt Pac-12, the conference and school announced Tuesday, ending several years of conversations with other leagues as the Zags tried to capitalize on their basketball success and recognizable brand.
