PAGES OF THE PAST

• The Valley Independent profiled Lois Phillips of Monongahela, an artist whose paintings adorn the Monongahela Senior Center. Phillips still recalls her husband’s Army serial number because of the many times she wrote it on the letters she sent him when he was a prisoner of war in Germany at the end of World War II. She grew up on a farm outside of Waynesburg and was married to her high school sweetheart for 50 years before he died in 1995. In addition to painting, Phillips sings in a choir, dances and plays the piano.
