IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE, but Christmas is two weeks from today. We are once more calling on our readers to help needy children in the Mid-Mon Valley.
The Christmas Cheer Club at the former Valley Independent was a key driver in the Mon Valley Salvation Army Citadel’s annual toy drive. We at the Mon Valley Independent have continued that tradition by asking readers to join the Christmas Cheer Club by bringing unwrapped toys valued at a minimum of $5 to our office at 1719 Grand Blvd. in Monessen.
As always, we will photograph club members with their donated toys and publish the pictures in the Mon Valley Independent.
It is our way of recognizing area residents who are willing to help children who might otherwise face a Christmas morning without gifts under their holiday trees.
Mid-Mon Valley residents have always had that giving spirit. With the holiday so near and the need so great, we are asking more of our readers to step forward and contribute to this excellent cause.
We are seeking donations for children of all ages, including teenagers who will benefit not only by receiving gifts, but by knowing that their friends and neighbors care about them. Gifts for these older children may include personal care and grooming items.
The toys you donate by joining the Christmas Cheer Club will be turned over to the Salvation Army and distributed to needy children in time for the holiday. By joining the Christmas Cheer Club, you will help the Salvation Army in many ways.
The organization, throughout the year, provides many social services — doing so with limited resources. Every donated toy allows the Salvation Army to save money to provide such services.
We hope to see many of you in our office in the days to come.
But time is running short. Our collection deadline is Friday. The MVI office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays for donation dropoffs. With every donation — through every membership in the Christmas Cheer Club — another needy child’s life will be enriched.
