Robert G. Whitfield – Speers
Robert G. Whitfield, 96, of Speers, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, in his home. A son of the late Rosalie Bissieri Whit field, he was born in Monessen on Sept. 19, 1928. A lifelong resident of Speers, Robert was a member of the Speers United Methodist Church, where he was the choir director for many years, sang at many weddings and was a former Sunday School teacher. He was also a barbershop singer for 35 years, even having directed the group at one point. Robert was a longtime member of the Roscoe Sportsmen’s Association and the Centerville Borough Sportsman’s Association. He was employed as a machinist all of his life, first at the former Page Steel in Monessen and then at Royal Hydraulics in Cokeburg, retiring in the mid-1990s. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran, proudly serving in the Korean War. He is survived by a daughter, Wendy Whitfield of Speers; a son, Robert Whitfield of Waxhaw, N.C.; two grandchildren, Danielle (Steve) Tiernan and Jessie Lynn Whitfield and her fiancé, Josh Evans; a great-granddaughter, Bailee Jo Tiernan; and a sister, Rosalie Kochenbach of Mt. Lebanon. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey E. Whitfield, on May 24, 1992; a sister, Mary Jean Maxwell; and a daughter inlaw, Vicki Whitfield.
