Marilyn S. Pivarnik

Private funeral services were held today for Marilyn S. Pivarnik, 87, of Monessen, who passed away on Dec. 9, 2024, in Mon Va l l e y Care Cen t er. She was born in Monessen on Jan. 7, 1937, daughter of the late Andrew and Susan Balint Pivarnik. Marilyn was Catholic by faith and had been a member of the former Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish. She had served as the organist there, as well as at St. Anthony’s of Monessen. Music was an advocation for Marilyn, and she was a piano accompanist for several Christian groups and soloists. She had also entertained at many nursing and assisted living facilities and senior centers. Marilyn graduated Monessen High School as her class valedictorian. She furthered her education at California University of PA, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She received her Masters of Education in Educational Administration from West Virginia University, and her PA Elementary Principals Certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. Marilyn served as the director of elementary education for the City of Monessen School District prior to her retirement. She belonged to the PA Association of School Retirees, Westmoreland County of School Retirees, and was a Past Governor of Quota International. She had served eight years on the Board for the City of Monessen School District. Marilyn loved to read, do computer word games such as “Scrabble,” telephone chat with friends and family, and gathering with her group of friends at McDonald’s where she enjoyed a “sweet tea.” Survivors include her dear friends, Janet Delvecchio and Joanne Joseph. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Parks.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen. Entombment took place at Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum of Monessen.
