Arthur Balieu
STOCKDALE
Arthur Balieu, of Stockdale, patriarch of four generations and a local community leader, passed away on Dec. 27, 2024, at the age of 86. Arthur lived a full and impactful life that was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, his community and his work. Like many men of his generation, Arthur entered the workforce as a teenager at the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Allenport Works. He quickly earned a reputation for his strong work ethic, integrity and dedication. He rose through the ranks from working in inspection to becoming the head roller on production. Additionally, he was active in the United Steelworkers, serving as grievance manager and vice president of Local 1187. In his later years, he served as President of SOAR, the Steelworks Organization of Active Retirees. During his life, Arthur was district governor of the Lions Club, and he volunteered with Meals on Wheels. In his spare time, Arthur was an avid bowler and could often be found at Reap Bowling Alley in Belle Vernon, where he cherished his time with his friend Bob Horan and fellow bowlers. A devout member of United Methodist Church in Speers, Arthur’s faith played an important role in his life. He attended services regularly and was a familiar face in the church community. His kindness, generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand reflected the values of his faith. Arthur’s legacy of service, hard work and love for his family will continue to inspire those who knew him. He was a man of integrity, honor and compassion, and his absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends and the many organizations he supported over the years. Arthur was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine Parshall Balieu; son-in-law, Samuel Spina; and sister, Joyce (David) Harris. He was the son of the late Charles and Sara Balieu. He is survived by two daughters, Lori Spina of Speers and Cathy (Robert) Dean of Eighty Four; a son, Charles Balieu, of Speers; his grandchildren, Christie (Josh) Dubnansky, Ryan (Selina) Dean, Sammy (Krystal) Spina, Mara (Matt) Boronsky and Payton Balieu; and his great-grandchildren, Chloe and Maddie Dubnansky, Shiloh Spina and Walter Boronsky.
