Delaware ‘Dale’ Ross – Monessen

Delaware “Dale” Ross was born on Nov. 15, 1942, and departed this life to be with our Lord on Mond a y , Dec. 23, 2024. Affec tionately known as Dale, he was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Ross Sr. and mother, Mary Alice Williams Ross. Dale attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Library, Pa., and later became a member of Union Baptist Church in Monessen, where he served as trustee and chairman of the Usher Ministry until his illness. Dale was a graduate of Snowden High School, where he excelled in basketball and football and was well known as one of the school’s best tight ends. He had been employed with United Mine Workers of America – Mathies Mine for 18 years, and in retirement, he worked as an Elizabeth Forward School District bus driver and later with metal detection for the Monessen City School District. He was an avid member of the I.B.P.O.E. of W. of Okay No. 697 Monessen Lodge, where he served as steward for many years. United with our Lord and his dear mother and father, Dale was preceded in death by the late Nadine Bronson Ross; daughter, Dionne Ross; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Madison Ross; sister, Yvonne Ross Nicholson; and brothers, Marty, Arthur, Clark, Theodore and Alvin. Delaware is survived by his beloved wife, Christina Littleton Ross; son, Delroy L. (Carla) Ross Sr.; stepdaughter, Chavonna Rae Tartt; grandsons, Torrodrick Williams and Delroy L. Ross, Jr.; granddaughter, Jasmine Diggs; step-grandchildren, Andrea Robinson, Brianna Robinson, Darian Robinson and Alaysia Bundy; and great-grandchildren, Kayden, Davonte and Jaz’lynn. Surviving brothers and sisters include Benny (Marva) Ross, Eugene Ross Jr., Charlotte Ross Matthews, Mary Ross, Bonnie Sue Ross Squires. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be sadly missed. Viewing will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 230 Reed Ave., Monessen. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, with Pastor Bishop Karl Jackson officiating and the Rev.
