PAGES OF THE PAST

• The Valley Independent profiled Paul Valovich, a 1961 graduate of Charleroi High School. After graduation, Valovich attended Purdue University, where he joined the Navy ROTC. He left college as a Navy ensign and earned his pilot’s wings. He flew more than 200 combat missions over Vietnam, an experience that he said changed his life. Valovich said, “I never considered my 30 years in the Navy a job. My dad was a steelworker at the Allenport plant. I remember how he hated to go to work.”
