Janet Karpiak Calcara – Fallowfield Township
Janet Karpiak Calcara, 79, of Fallowfield Township, fell asleep in the arms of the Lord on Jan. 12, 2025. Born in McKeesport on Feb. 21, 1945, she was the bel oved wife of Carl A. Calcara; aunt of Robin (Robert) Hixenbaugh and Shannon Harteis; and sister-in-law to Sherry Karpiak. Also cherishing her memory are her eight great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Susan Soltis Karpiak; and her brother, Nicholas R. Karpiak. Janet was a 1963 graduate of Charleroi Area High School and was formerly employed by the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation in Pittsburgh. Beginning in 1983, she served as secretary for Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church in Charleroi, where she was a lifetime member. She also enjoyed coordinating the parish’s Sunday afternoon grocery bingo from 1980 to 2012. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2024, at CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, in the funeral home with interment following in Mon Valley Memorial Park.
