In the end, Bella Dumbroski wound up with a game-high 29 points and the Eagles came home with a 62-21 win over host Avella in a Section 2-1A game.
Abby Genes added 15 points for the Eagles, who led 44-9 at the half and didn’t allow Avella a single point in the third quarter.
Looking best for Avella (7-9, 2-6) was Sydney Strope, who finished with 10 points in the loss.
Serra Catholic (9-6, 7-2), which has won eight of their last nine, travels to Clairton Saturday for a noon tip-off.
South Park 47, Belle Vernon 2 7 Offensive struggles continued for the Leopards as they were held scoreless in the first quarter of a section loss to the visiting Eagles (10-4, 7-2).
Hayley Bennett scored a game-high 17 points and Nika Cantakos added 12 to lead South Park to the win.
Emerson LaCarte led the Leopards (8-9, 5-4) with 8 points in the loss.
BVA travels to Elizabeth Forward Monday.

The Warriors exploded to a 21-point third quarter after a slow start in the first half to race to a win over the host Vikings (3-13, 3-7) in Section 3-4A play.
Chloe Zombek scored a game-high 21 points to lead EF. Teammate Kaelynn Settles scored 10 to hit double digits.
The Vikings were led by 14 points from Riley Drzal and 8 points from Morgan Gesinski.
The Warriors (12-3, 9-0) are home against Belle Vernon Monday.
Mapletown 39, Monessen 28
The Maples picked up their first section win of the season with a win over the Greyhounds in Section 2-1A.
The Hounds (3-9, 1-7) led by three at the half, but were held to only seven second-half points compared to 21 for Mapletown (3-13, 1-7).
Nicole Bacera led the Maples with 12 points. Teammate Treslee Weston had 10.
Madison Johnson led all scorers with 15 points for the Greyhounds.
Monessen travels to West Greene Monday.
Thomas Jefferson 71, Albert Gallatin 37
Kaylee DeAngelo buried four 3-pointers and finished with a gamehigh 17 points to lead the Jaguars (152, 7-1) over the Colonials in a Section 4-5A matchup.
Maggie Spell chipped in 16 points for Thomas Jefferson, who led 36-17 at the half.
Mya Glisan scored 12 points and Mikayla Shea had 11 for Albert Gallatin (7-8, 1-7).
The Jags, who have won 9 of their last 10, host Uniontown Monday.
Greensburg CC 59, South Allegheny 17
Erica Gribble ripped the nets for 26 points and Jayla Peterson chipped in 10 as the Centurions (9-3, 5-1) trounced the Gladiators (2-12, 2-5) in Section 2-3A action Thursday.
Ella Lotz led South Allegheny with a team-high 9 points.
The Gladiators are back in action Saturday at home against section foe Shady Side Academy at 1 p.m.
Latrobe 63, McKeesport 44
The Tigers got off to a sputtering start offensively and the Wildcats took advantage to get a Section 2-5A win.
Carley Berk scored a game-high 18 points for Latrobe (10-7, 6-3) while teammates Brylee Bodnar and Maggie Maiers each finished with 14.
Jessica Miller led the way for McKeesport (4-12, 1-7) with a team-high 17 points. Emily Eisenberg chipped in 12.
The Tigers are back in play tonight at Indiana.
McGuffey 67, Charleroi 21
Taylor Schumacher scored 20 points, Lexi Ewing added 14 and Maura Jonovich had 12 as the Highlanders (11-6, 5-3) raced past the winless Cougars (0-17, 0-8) in Section 3-3A play.
Eden Smith led the way for the Cougars with a team-high 12 points.
Charleroi heads north to Keystone Oaks Monday.
Ellis School 59, Frazier 28
Penn-Trafford 56, West Mifflin 25
The Tigers had three players in double figures led by Syree Spencer’s 17 points to get a Section 4-2A win over the Commodores.
Angelina Jones added 16 points and Selah Cyrus hit 13 for Ellis School (6-6, 3-3).
“I really like the effort and fight we showed tonight. Our shots did not fall tonight but that happens,” Frazier coach Jonathan Bass said. “We are just going to keep at it and keep leaving it all on the court.”
Frazier (5-10, 1-4) was led by the steady play of Allie Yauch.
The Commodores go to Winchester Thurston Monday.
The Warriors (17-0, 9-0) remained unbeaten with a lopsided win on the road over the Titans (2-13, 0-8).
Torrie DeStefano scored a gamehigh 16 points to lead all scorers in the contest.
West Mifflin is back in section play Monday at McKeesport.
Bentworth 42, Jeff-Morgan 32
The Bearcats rallied from a firsthalf deficit to upend the Rockets and capture a section win at home.
Kayla O’Dell poured in a gamehigh 18 points for Bentworth (7-10, 3-3) with Bella Moyer added seven.
Ava Wood led the Rockets (1-14, 0-5) with eight points.
The Bearcats are back in section play Monday on the road at Carmichaels.
Wrestling Belle Vernon 40, South Fayette 27
The Leopards picked up a non-section win on South Fayette’s home mat Thursday to rebound from Wednesday’s tough section loss to rival Ringgold.
Grabbing pinfall wins for the Leopards were Deydon Soto, Connor Hoffman, Kole Doppelheuer, Skylar Gush and Elijah Brown.
Brown’s victory was the 100th of his career.
Enzo Ortolona added a 17-5 major decision win to the Leopards’ total.
Belle Vernon is back in action at the Grove City tournament this weekend before beginning the WPIAL team playoffs on Monday.
