The Greyhounds (10-6) jumped out to a 22-8 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
Monessen was fueled by the strong play of forward Rodney Johnson. The big man poured in a game-high 26 points to lead three double-digit scorers.
Devontae Robinson finished with 12 points for the Greyhounds with Trayvin Craggette adding 10.
The Greyhounds outscored the Raiders (216) in each quarter. They were led by Terrance Collington, who scored a team-high 17 points. Walter Clarit added 12.
Monessen is back in action Friday on the road against Environmental Charter at 6 p.m.
Jeannette 61, Clairton 51 A slow start was detrimental to the upset- minded Bears as they suffered a 10-point loss to the visiting Jayhawks (16-1, 9-1) Wednesday.
Kymone Brown scored a game-high 18 points with Markus McGowan adding 16 for Jeannette.
The Jayhawks held a seven-point edge after one quarter in a game that was played evenly from that point.
Taris Wooding ended his night with 11 points for the Bears (7-7, 7-3). Teammates Donte Wright and Zaemere Correll each finished with 10.
The Bears are at Bentworth tonight at 6 p.m.
Girls Monessen 44, Avella 34
Madison Johnson had her best game of the season as the Greyhounds (4-11, 2-9) upset visiting Avella to avenge a loss from earlier in the season.
After trailing 10-7 after a quarter, the Hounds took over in the second, outscoring the Eagles (8-11, 3-8) by a 17-9 margin.
Na’Jaziah Carter hit double figures for Monessen with 11 points.
Ava Frank led Avella with 15 points.
Monessen hosts Serra Catholic today at 7 p.m.
Clairton 74, Carrick 27
Iyanna Wade fell just seven points shy of doubling up the Raiders’ output after putting up 47 points in the Bears’ non-section win.
Jamiya Childs poured in 15 points of her own for the Bears (13-4).
The Raiders (7-10) were led by Jocelyn Fisher’s 14 points.
Clairton heads to Avella tonight.
Eliz. Forward 62, Ringgold 17 Kaelynn Settles finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 12 steals to finish with a triple double leading the Warriors (14-3, 11-0) over the Rams in a Section 3-4A matchup Wednesday.
Mia Sostaric shared game-high honors with Settles with 15 points of her own and Chloe Zombek added 12 points for Elizabeth Forward.
Jada Gernot led Ringgold (7-10, 1-9) with 5 points in the loss.
The two teams face off again tonight at Ringgold.
California 68, Charleroi 48 The Cougars led 18-16 after a quarter but it all came crashing down from there as the Trojans outscored them 52-30 the rest of the way to pick up a non-section win on the road.
Hayley Gibson scored a game-high 26 points to lead California (8-6) with teammate Leah Hartley adding 20 points. Freshman Olivia Gibson scored 10 points to give the Trojans three players in double figures.
Eden Smith led the Cougars (0-19) with a team-high 20 points. Emma Skobel added 12.
Charleroi is off until Saturday when they travel to Seton LaSalle at noon.
The Trojans will travel to Bentworth tonight at 7:30 p.m. for a section game.
Chatiers-Houston 62, Frazier 26 The Bucs started fast and never looked back in a blowout win over the Commodores in a Section 4-2A matchup.
Ava Capozzoli and Ava Kolovich each finished with 12 points for the Bucs (14-4, 6-0).
Allie Yauch led all scorers with a game-high 13 points for Frazier (5-13, 1-6).
The Commodores will look to end a fivegame losing skid at home tonight against Riverview.
