• The Ringgold girls basketball team won’t win the Quad-A Section 2 title this year, but the Rams are still making their presence felt in the ranks. The Rams posted their second win over a top-five team when the defeated No. 4 Indiana, 48-37, in an exhibition game. Earlier in the season, Ringgold upset Oakland Catholic, which is now ranked fifth. Emily Cokinos (20) and Ashley Totedo (14) combined for 34 points to lead the Rams to their 14th win in their last 19 games.
• The Cal U women’s basketball team slipped to 2-3 in the PSAC West Division with an 88-77 loss to IUP. Pam Vilk and
Kim Paciorek both had 18 points for the Vulcans.
1985
• The Charleroi boys basketball team hasn’t had much success on the road. The Cougars are 1-6 away from home going into their game at Chartiers-Houston. Charleroi upped their road tally to 2-6 after a shaky 56-55 win. The Cougars (5-11) led 56-52 with nine seconds remaining on the clock but the Bucs battled back to cut the margin to a single point and nearly pulled the game out when a basket by Chartiers-Houston’s A.J. Williams went in right after the buzzer sounded.
• Ringgold is the highest scoring team in the South Penn Hockey League and at the Rostraver Ice Garden they showed why. Eight players scored goals for the second-place Rams in a 15-1 romp over Steel Valley. Chuck Rose, the league’s leading scorer led the way with four goals to raise his season tally to 33. He also had three assists raising his season total to 27. Matt Melena, Beau Quattrone, Jamie Colagiovanni and Neal Prentice each added a pair of goals with John Segursky, Al Fergus and Ryan Keefer rounding out the scoring.
