• Charleroi High’s Jenn Crabb needed only 96 seconds to join the 1,000-point club. It was the last 30 minutes of the game that did in the Cougars in their Class AA Section 5 battle with Beth-Center. The Bulldogs took advantage of a big run and early foul trouble for Charleroi to defeat their hosts 49-45. Charleroi coach Nick Mahalko said, “Some of our girls picked up a bunch of early fouls and we had to come out of our man-to-man defense, then they hit a couple of threes.” After Crabb hit her milestone she only made five more shots in the first half.
• The Serra Catholic hockey team upped its record to 16-0 with a 6-1 victory over Mars at Rostraver Ice Garden. Justin Lubash scored three goals and had an assist to lead the Eagles with Joey Manning contributing a goal and three assists. Aaron Nolte and Mike Puskar had the other goals with Mike Ellis, Josh Werner and Tanner Cattone each adding an assist.

• Chad Salisbury threw more than 500 passes during his time at Frazier High School. His next pass will be his longest. It will travel about 2/3 of the way across the United States to Las Cruces, N.M, home of New Mexico State University. The record-breaking Frazier quarterback said that he will sign with the Aggies on the first official recruiting day for football prospects. Salisbury has no problem moving so far from home saying, “I just want to play football and I think this is where I have my best shot.”
• The Monessen Greyhounds rolled up their 11th straight victory with an exclamation point, routing California, 88-33. The Greyhounds raced out to a commanding 43-9 halftime lead over the Trojans. Jimmy Arnold led the top-ranked Class A team in the state, scoring a career-high 27 points. Arnold – who only needs 89 points to break the 1,000-point mark – also had a team-high seven steals. Patric Greene scored 22 points and Jeff Gagatko scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

• Scoring points and breaking records is nothing new for Monessen High’s Leenie Grant. There was one school record that she didn’t hold, the single game high scoring mark of 42 which was held by Melanie Menkola. She took possession of that title as she poured in 43 points to lead the Hounds to a convincing 89-51 romp over visiting Mapletown.
• Charleroi’s girl swimmers are at home with Keystone Oaks following a close 92-80 loss to Canon-McMillan. The defeat dropped the Cougars’ record to 4-4. Charleroi had five firsts with Bernie Kirby leading the way with wins in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Other Charleroi winners were
Carla Libengood (diving), Jackie Matianski (100 butterfly), and Michele Smith (50 freestyle).
