Thomas ‘Pappy’ Sollosi Jr. – New Eagle
Surrounded at home with his loving family, Thomas “Pappy” Sollosi Jr., 99, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025. Tom was born in W e s t Brownsville on July 16, 1925, to Thomas and Margaret Messner Sollosi. He grew up in Elrama and graduated from Connelley Vocational School in Pittsburgh in 1943. Soon after, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy and participated in the Normandy invasion during World War II. He was at Omaha Beach and later the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. Tom was wounded on the Rhine River and received a Purple Heart. After his discharge from the military, he worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad as a brakeman for 40 years, retiring in 1986. Tom enjoyed gardening, playing the mandolin, watching the Pirates and the Penguins and playing his daily numbers. Tom was liked and admired by everyone who knew him. He was always ready to help family, neighbors and friends in need. Tom was a wonderful dad and grandfather. He is survived by his children, Marilyn (Marcello) Ricci, Dr. Tom (Linda) Sollosi, Ron (Dawn) Sollosi and Shari (Kevin) Necciai; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his youngest brother, Steve Sollosi. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Clark Sollosi, with whom he celebrated 75 years of marriage; son, Rick Sollosi and his wife Maryann; daughter-in-law, Gay Sollosi; and siblings, Margaret Lehrman, Julia Mellor, John Sollosi and Mike Sollosi. Tom’s family would like to thank OSPTA Hospice for their loving care. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, with the Rev. Tom Sollosi and the Rev. William Bailey co-officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
