Paul Matthew Stratton – Sun City Center, Fla., formerly of Belle Vernon
Paul Matthew Stratton, 74, of Sun City Center, Fla., died March 4, 2025, at South Shore Hospital. He was the son of the late Matthew and Anna Stratton of Monroeville and was blessed with a childhood full of warm memories surrounded by several siblings and cousins. Paul graduated with a degree in computer science from Virginia Tech University and retired from Bechtel Technical Industries, as a senior systems engineer, computer analyst in 2014. Prior to his retirement, he spent many years of his life living in Belle Vernon with his wife, Sandy, where they raised their two children, Rob and Suzie. In 2017, he achieved a retirement goal of running toward warmer weather and cruise lines, and built a home within their new retirement community of Sun City Center, Fla. Some of his most enjoyed hobbies included golf, bowling, reading and traveling. He was also a longtime avid singer as a member of the church choir, and the local barbershop chorus. He was an active member of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church in Belle Vernon for many years, often serving in a leadership role. Paul continued his faith and musical contributions in Florida as a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. He volunteered through the Sun City Center Men’s Club, installing and maintaining Life Line devices for seniors. Paul was a kind and thoughtful man with strong positive values, a great sense of humor, and was devoted to his family. During retirement, he was able to spend time traveling and enjoyed organizing extended family trips. He was fun loving and it is said that “he never met an amusement park or roller coaster that he didn’t like.” Paul is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 46 years, Sandy Henderson Stratton; two children and six young grandchildren, all whom loved him dearly and will strive to carry on his legacy; son, Rob Stratton (Kristen) of Greensburg (Bryce, Addilyn, Weston and Lydia), and daughter, Suzie Prager (Josh) of Aurora, Colo. (Joey and Anna). He is also survived by brothers, Jeff Stratton (Karen), of Morgantown, W.Va., and Bill Stratton (Wanda) of Catlettsburg, Ky., sister, Laura Weber (Bill) of Erie; and several nieces, nephews and beloved cousins. As noted in his email signature line — “may we all live to be 100, or die trying.” A memorial service will be held later this spring with all who loved him to celebrate his life as he would not approve of Pennsylvania’s cold weather these days. The celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, in the chapel at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church in Belle Vernon. There will be a luncheon to follow.
