Goodwill donation drive to benefit BV library

The event is sponsored by and benefits Penn Highlands Mon Valley Auxiliary.
The Belle Vernon Public Library will hold its annual donation drive from 3 to 6 p.m. April 1 at Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, 460 Tri-County Lane, Rostraver Township. Donations brought will help the library raise money, as well benefit Goodwill in its mission to help people overcome barriers to employment.
Acceptable donations include clothing, handbags, glass and housewares, cooking accessories, musical instruments, sports equipment and toys.
Among the items that will not be accepted on donation day are furniture, baby cribs and gates, computers and televisions.
A full list of acceptable and unacceptable items is available at the library.
For those unable to get to the Goodwill on April 1, items may be dropped off at the library, 505 Speer St., North Belle Vernon, beginning Friday.
Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday; noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, contact the library at 724-9296642.
WCCC to host open house
Westmoreland County Community College will hold an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. March 26 at the Youngwood campus with unique experiences for potential students.
Faculty will provide information on the college’s programs. Westmoreland programs prepare graduates for careers with an associate degree, certificate and diploma, or for transfer to four-year universities.
The revised format of the open house will feature a variety of program activities including a “Mike’s Bikes: Try Running a Business” for those interested in pursuing a degree in business. The open house will also showcase a “Guess the Fair Market Value” game for people looking at career opportunities in real estate. The night will also offer a “Show Me then Let Me Try” activity for guests who want to experience the world of accounting.
All locations, including the Advanced Technology Center in Mt. Pleasant, Latrobe, Murrysville, New Kensington, Indiana and Uniontown centers, will also host open house events from 3 to 6 p.m. March 26.
All centers will have admissions, student success and financial aid information available along with staff to talk about the programs at each location.
Jubilee Concert of Hope to be held in Greensburg
A Jubilee Concert of Hope will be held at 7 p.m. April 11 at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg. The concert will feature the Diocesan Choir of Greensburg, the Westmoreland Choral Society and the Diocesan Festival Orchestra. Bishop Larry J. Kulick invites the faithful to this special evening of music and reflection.
The concert will feature the world premiere of the “Stabat Mater,” a moving new composition by Nancy Galbraith, professor of composition at Carnegie Mellon University School of Music. The second piece of music is the “Passion According to Saint Matthew” also by Galbraith.
While concert tickets are free, registrations are being accepted for the pre-concert reception from 5 to 6:45 p.m. in the lower level of the cathedral. Reception tickets are $75 each and include cocktails, salad, pasta stations and a dessert bar.

WOMEN of Southwestern Pa. Inc. accepting grant applications
WOMEN (Women Organized to Mentor, Empower and Network) of Southwestern Pa., is accepting grant applications through May 1 for funding requests up to $3,500 from nonprofit charities and community organizations.
To qualify, the organization must have IRS 501 (c) (3) status and request funds for specific projects, have no state or federal funding, and must benefit women and children.
The mission of WOMEN of Southwestern Pa., Inc is to help less fortunate women and children in Washington, Beaver, Greene, Allegheny, Westmoreland and Fayette counties. Grant monies are disbursed from September through June throughout Southwestern Pa. to assist nonprofits. Emergency funds are available for requests throughout the year. The WOMEN group has disbursed over $1,100,000 over the past 24 years.
