The cross-river rivalry’s latest chapter belongs to Charleroi as the Cougars trounced the visiting Greyhounds, 15-0, in four innings Wednesday at Vets Field.
Charleroi jumped on the Greyhounds (0-2) quickly, plating eight runs in the opening frame. Kaden Woods got the scoring started with a two-run single. After Jackson Keranko walked, Lazer Glasser stepped up and roped a two-run double to center. That made it 5-0 after Jacob Gelder scored on a wild pitch.
Braeden Todaro came in to score after doubling and Jace Pager scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-0.
The Cougars (2-0) added five runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Glasser, who finished with a pair of doubles and four RBIs, notched his second two-bagger and Keranko scored on an error.
After a bases-loaded walk made it 12-0, Jake Corrin came in to score on a Klinger fielder’s choice.
Woods joined Glasser with a pair of hits in the win and drove in three. Todaro (2), Klinger and Pager each added RBIs in the win.
Logan Usher got the win, tossing just the first inning.
Christian Scherer was saddled with the loss for Monessen (0-2) after allowing 10 runs (nine earned) in an inning.
The Cougars host Friday at 4 p.m. while the Greyhounds return to action today at Uniontown for a 4 p.m. start.
South Allegheny 0, Atlantic Coll. Acad. (SC) 0
Both teams had fantastic pitching as the Gladiators’ Adam Jackowski and Dillon Pomocki combined for a no-hitter, but the offense couldn’t get a run across the play.
Jackowski got the start and was able to fend off five walks and struck out six in six innings.
The Gladiators (2-1-1) are back in action at the Ripken Experience today at 11 a.m.
Serra Catholic 10, Leechburg 0
The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after an inning and rolled to a six-inning, mercy-rule win over the visiting Blue Devils (0-1).
Max Black, Owen Dombroski and Matt McNeil each doubled in the win and drove in a run as eight different hitters had RBIs for the Eagles (3-0).
Dombroski got the win. He allowed only one hit in three innings and struck out four.
Mason Bertino didn’t make it out of the first and got the loss for Leechburg.
The Eagles are on the road at Valley Friday.
Riverview 16, Clairton 0
The Bears (0-2) committed a whopping eight errors defensively as the Raiders picked up a win in five innings with only seven hits.
Lukas Duncan drove in three runs and Rece Stempfer had a pair of doubles and a pair of RBIs for the Raiders (0-2).
Jontere Sanders allowed nine runs, only three earned, in three innings to get the loss for Clairton.
The Bears host Beth-Center Friday.
Softball Mt. Pleasant 10, Charleroi 4
The Cougars jumped on the Vikings with a 4-0 lead, then allowed 10 unanswered runs in a non-section loss.
Carly Surma had three hits, including a homer, and three RBIs to lead the Vikings (1-0). Danica Trainer finisehd with three hits and Gig Stanek and Gracie Etling each had a single and double for Mt. Pleasant.
Ariahna Blouse took the loss in the circle, scattering 13 hits and allowing 10 runs, seven earned.
The Cougars (0-1) committed five errors defensively.
Blouse added three hits, including a double and RBI. Also driving in runs for Charleroi were Avery Pendo and Payton Huweart.
Elizabeth Forward 12, Austin Prep (Fla.) 2
The Warriors started off their season on a winning note, blowing out Austin Prep (Fla.) at the KSA Tournament in Orlando.
Addy Nigut had four hits and drove in two runs, and Julia Resnik had a double, homer and three RBIs to lead the Warriors (1-0).
Sophie Pasinsky (2) and Alivia Grimm combined for three RBIs for EF.
Julia Johnson got the win, allowing three hits and striking out nine.
The Warriors continue play today in Florida against Inspiration Academy (Fla.) at 10 a.m.
Bentworth 12, Merion Mercy (Pa.) 1
The Bearcats won their season opener Wednesday with a mercy-rule victory over Merion Mercy Academy in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Mia Bey doubled twice, singled and drove in a team-high five runs as the Titans (1-1) shut out the Golden Eagles in non-section play.
Aubrey Jaskulski had a pair of doubles and added two RBIs for West Mifflin.
Rylie Dobnak got the win after allowing three hits in six innings. She struck out 11.
Emily Lambert took the loss for the Golden Eagles (0-2).
West Mifflin travels to Serra Cathollc Monday.
South Allegheny 14, Oakland Catholic 12
The Gladiators (2-0) used an eightrun bottom of the fifth to push past the Eagles (0-1) in a non-section slugfest Wednesday.
Emma Jackson had four hits for South Allegheny. Teammates Taylor Bowman and Cam Colecchi each had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs.
Ava Brown got the win in relief after throwing 2 1/3 innings and striking out six.
Nina HIllard had five hits and four RBIs to lead the Eagles.
South Allegheny 16, East Allegheny 0 (Tues.)
The Gladiators blew out the Wildcats (0-1) to grab their first win of the season.
Emma Jackson finished with three hits and three RBIs and Carrera Conley had a double with three RBIs in the win.
Ava Brown got the win in the circle in a short, three-inning win. She allowed two hits and had four strikeouts.
She added two hits, including a double and Taylor Bowman finished with a triple and single.
In all, eight players drove in runs for South Allegheny (1-0).
