Jaguars win big in season opener; Rams beat Cougars

The Jaguars used a 12-run second inning to vault themselves to a 21-2 win over the Yellowjackets from Oklahoma.
Luke Kosko, a Cincinnati recruit, went 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles and pair of triples in the win. He drove in four runs.
Justin Berberich drove in four runs as well, finishing with a single, double and triple.
Alex Janicki, who finished 2 for 4 with three runs scored, had four RBIs in the win.
Damian Bosco tossed a no-hitter for the Jaguars, despite allowing two earned runs.
The Jaguars (1-0) put up all the runs on 13 hits and got some help from the Yellowjackets (0-8), who committed five errors in the game.
TJ will play a doubleheader today. They’ll face Atlantic Collegiate Academy at 6 p.m. before playing Central Bucks South at 9 p.m.
Severn School (MD) 3, South Allegheny 0 The Gladiators finished up their spring training trip to Myrtle Beach with a shutout loss to the Admirals (6-1).
Brendan Szydlik got the win for Severn School. He tossed a complete game and allowed only two hits with four strikeouts.
Caden Blanck and Larry Jacobs each had a pair of hits for the Admirals.
Dillon Pomocki got the loss for the Gladiators (2-3-1). He scattered eight hits and allowed three runs, two earned, in six innings.
SA is back in action March 31 at home against Shady Side Academy.
Frazier 14, Mapletown 4 The Commodores scored nine runs in the first three innings on their way to a 5-inning win over visiting Mapletown.
Chase Fulmer continued to swing a hot bat, going 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Dailan McManus doubled and had a pair of RBIs for the Commodores (30).
Dylan Keilbach scattered five hits and allowed four runs, but none of them were earned. He struck out seven.
Spencer Yeager had three hits and an RBI for the Maples (1-2).
The Commodores, who’ve scored 45 runs in their first three games, will host Bentworth in their section opener Monday at home.
Ringgold 10, Charleroi 2 The Rams used a five-run fourth to pull away from rival Charleroi and rolled to a lopsided win Friday at Vets Field.
Alex Kolano starred for the Rams (1-2) by going 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Gavin Angotti doubled with three runs scored.
Andrew Sprinkle, Kennedy Nash, Sam Allen, Tyler Fisher and Demetri Lowe each drove in a run for the Rams.
Jimmy Nash got the win after allowing one run through three innings. He walked six and struck out five.
The Cougars committed five errors defensively. Brock Henderson took the loss after being tagged for five runs in an inning.
Henderson doubled and drove in a run for the Cougars’ offense.
Ringgold is back in action Monday against Elizabeth Forward at Ken Griffey Sr. Field. The Cougars open section play Monday on the road at Washington.
Valley 2, Serra Catholic 1
Julian Danko’s RBI single in the third inning was the difference as the Vikings (3-0) remained unbeaten with a win over the Eagles (2-1).
Brady Moore pitched a strong game for Valley. He allowed four hits over 5 2/3 with four strikeouts.
Dante Taliani got the scoring started with a solo homer off Eagles starter Tyler Skaggs.
Skaggs got the loss after allowing 10 hits and two runs over five innings.
Max Black had a pair of hits for Serra Catholic.
Obama Academy 18, McKeesport 9
Clark Ehman and Caleb Myers each had three hits as the Eagles doubled up the Tigers in non-section action Friday.
Myers had a double, triple and three RBIs, and Ehman had a triple with two RBIs. Braylon Johnson tripled and had three RBIs for Obama Academy (1-1).
Mason Michaels was roughed up on the mound for McKeesport (0-3). He was charged with 12 runs, four earned, scattering nine hits through four innings.
Caulan Smith had a pair of hits and Mason Gergely and Matt Miller each doubled for the Tigers.
McKeesport opens section play Monday at home against Woodland Hills.
Beth-Center 10, Clairton 0
Luke Amon doubled, singled, and finished with a pair of RBIs to help lead the Bulldogs (1-0) to a win in their season opener at Clairton.
The Bears’ Adonte Wiggins allowed nine runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings to get the loss. He walked six and allowed four earned runs.
Eli Wright, Jonah Sussan and Santino Revi each drove in runs for Beth-Center.
Clairton (0-3) begins section play Monday at Eden Christian.
Softball Charleroi 12, Mapletown 2
Ariahna Blouse allowed one earned run through five innings to shut down the Maples’ offense and help lead the Cougars to a blowout win.
Lyla Brunner had a pair of hits and three RBIs, Avery Pendo tripled and Emma Skobel had two hits and an RBI to lead the offense for the Cougars (1-1).
Treslee Weston had a double and single for Mapletown (22). Cora Roberts was the losing pitcher.
The Cougars travel to Southmoreland Monday.
Elizabeth Forward 17, Notre Dame Acad. (NY) 3
The Warriors bounced back off a loss by pounding Staten Island’s Notre Dame Academy in five innings in their final game in the Sunshine State.
Julia Resnik homered, doubled and finished with a pair of RBIs for EF. Teammates Berlyn Holibaugh and Julia Johnson each had three hits, with Johnson adding three RBIs.
Johnson got the win in the circle throwing five innnings. She allowed five hits and two earned runs with seven strikeouts.
Holibaugh, Alivia Grimm, Sammy Malek and Aubri Cimba, each drove in a pair of runs for the Warriors.
EF returns home and will travel to Yough Friday for a non-section game.
Belle Vernon 9, Albert Gallatin 5
The Leopards got back on the winning track, coming back from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Colonials (0-1) at Tom Rodriguez Field.
Maddie Grisnik had three hits for BVA, while Mia Zubovic had a solo homer.
Mailey Hayes had a hit, two sacrifices and ended with a team-high four RBIs for the Leps (2-2).
Lily Crawford had a complete game win, scattering six hits and allowing three earned runs with nine strikeouts.
Jenna Myers had two hits and Mikayla Shea finished with three RBIs for the Colonials.
The Leopards are back in action Monday at home against Thomas Jefferson.
Mt. Pleasant 9, Ringgold 4 The Vikings (2-0) pounded out 14 hits, including four from Gracie Etling, in a non-section win at Finley Fields over the Rams (0-4).
Kendra Brunson added two hits and three RBIs and Gigi Stanek had a double, single and two RBIs for Mt. Pleasant.
Etling added a triple for the winners.
Stanek pitched her way to the win, throwing a complete game. She allowed five hits and three earned runs.
Addison Jenkins had a pair of hits, including a home run for the Rams.
Ringgold travels to Albert Gallatin Tuesday.
