Unfortunately for the Rams, Cy Herchelroath was perfect – literally.
The Warriors’ senior hurler threw a perfect game at Ken Griffey Sr. Field Monday as Elizabeth Forward needed only three hits and a lone run to pick up the win.
“I couldn’t be more proud of Cy. He pitched so efficiently today. He was working ahead of the hitters throughout the game. He threw all of his pitches for strikes and kept the hitters off balance,” EF coach Frank Champ said of the performance. “I don’t believe that we’ve had a 7-inning perfect game in the last 30 years. His hard work and dedication have paid off.”
Herchelroath went the distance and struck out eight for the Warriors (3-0, 1-0), whose lone run came in the top of the 7th inning off the bat of Mitchell Vuick.
Fisher was nearly as dominant as Herchelroath, taming a powerful Warriors lineup.
The Ringgold (1-3, 0-1) hurler threw 6 1/3 innings and allowed only three hits. He struck out three and walked four in the loss.
The Warriors’ Landon Jackson led off the top of the 7th with a double to left. After a ground out by Daniel Spence moved Jackson to third, Vuick followed with a shot to left to plate Jackson.
The two teams resume play for Game 2 of the series at Elizabeth Forward’s Wylie Field today.
