After getting no-hit Monday, the Rams rebounded for a thrilling extra-inning win Tuesday at Wylie Field against Elizabeth Forward.
It was 2-2 entering the eighth inning when Ringgold plated four runs and earned a 6-2 win over Elizabeth Forward on Tuesday.
Sam Allen doubled to start the eighth off before Jimmy Nash singled to put himself on first and courtesy runner Ryder Talbott at third. Brandon Cole drew a walk to load the bases before the scoring began.
Demetri Lowe reached on an error and Skyler Mucci singled and Andrew Sprinkle hit a 2-RBI single to push the Rams (2-3, 1-1) to their second win of the season.
Alex Kolano had a single and double for Ringgold. Nash, who entered after the Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, ended up with the win after allowing only one hit through 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Charlie Nigut was tagged with the loss for the Warriors, giving up four hits and four runs in one inning of work.
Cy Herchelroath doubled and Nigut and AJ Grese each drove in runs for Elizabeth Forward (3-1, 1-1). They’ll be back to play Thursday at Yough while Ringgold will play Belle Vernon on March 31.
Serra Catholic 15, Monessen 0
The Eagles took advantage of nine walks and four Greyhound errors as they rolled to a three-innning win over Monessen at Port Vue.
Owen Dumbroski tripled and Jake Anderson doubled as each finished with two RBIs in the win. Bodi Rieger added a triple and RBI for the Eagles (4-1, 2-0).
Chris Johnson didn’t allow a hit over his three innings on the mound to get the win., He struck out four.
Jakob Dell got the loss for the Greyhounds (0-5, 0-2), throwing an inning with six earned runs and seven walks.
The Hounds are back in action Thursday at home against Washington. The Eagles will travel to section foe Eden Christian Monday.
Charleroi 13, Washington 3
The Cougars ended the game in six innings with a seven- run frame to deliver the Prexies (0-5, 0-2) a second straight mercy-rule loss.
Jake Corrin had three hits, including a double, and finished with two RBIs to lead the Charleroi offense.
Dylan Klinger and Jace Pager each added three hits for the Cougars (3-1, 2-0).
Brock Henderson drove in a run and got the win on the mound. He allowed three earned runs and five hits over 5 1/3 innings. He finished with nine strikeouts.
Charleroi is back in section action Monday on the road at Seton LaSalle.
West Mifflin 9, Albert Gallatin 3
The Titans swept the season series from the Colonials (1-3, 0-2) with a win in Fayette County.
Caden Wills, Ryan Buchleitner, Hunter Horne and Dakota Leister each had two hits for the Titans (42, 2-0). Leister had two RBIs, one of seven different players that drove in a run.
Horne scattered three hits and allowed only three runs over 4 1/3 innings to get the win. He struck out five.
Luke Wilson had a pair of doubles and two RBIs for Albert Gallatin.
The Titans travel to Baldwin Thursday.
Burrell 4, Yough 3
David Kleckner’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh scored the game-winning run for the Bucs (1-2, 1-0) as they walked off the Cougars to open their season series. Isaac Lacinski singled and doubled for the Bucs. Trey Coury had a pair of hits and drove in two runs in the win.
Yough’s Nate Bell was the hardluck loser after throwing 6 2/3 innings. He allowed nine hits, four runs (two earned) and walked five.
Yough’s Hayden Eicher had a pair of RBIs for the Cougars (1-2, 1-0).
The teams are back at it today in Game 2 of the series on Cougar Mountain.
South Park 10, California 0 Ryan Spitznagel went 3 for 4 with a single, double and triple, and drove in a pair of runs to help push the Eagles (2-0) past the Trojans.
Cooper Hochendoner had a single and double, and ended up with the win after allowing one hit over four innings of play.
Caden Monticelli allowed only one unearned run and five runs overall as the Trojans (0-2-1) committed eight errors in the field.
The Trojans will travel to EQT Park in Washington Thursday to take on McGuffey in a non-section matchup.
Woodland Hills 16, McKeesport 2
The Wolverines (1-1, 1-0) hammered out 12 hits and took advantage of a whopping 12 Tigers’ errors as they earned a Section 4-5A victory Tuesday.
Aaron Concepcion had a double, triple and drove in three RBIs for Woody High. Teammate Marcello Fagnelli, Shawn Saunders, Brayden Lindsey and Trustin Hart each had two hits.
Caulan Smith was saddled with the loss for McKeesport (0-4, 0-1) after allowing eight runs, only two earned, in four innings pitched.
The two teams will meet again today at Woodland Hills.
Canon-McMillan 5, Thomas Jefferson 1
Alex Shank doubled, singled and drove in a pair and Colin Yeager singled twice and had an RBI as the Big Macs (3-1) slugged 10 hits in a non-section win over the Jaguars (2-2).
Tyler Mitrisin had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in the lone Thomas Jefferson run in the loss.
Dom Metz got the loss after throwing five innings and allowing seven hits and three earned runs.
Michael Stafford allowed only one hit through four innings to get the win for the Big Macs.
The Jaguars open section play Monday at home against Baldwin.
Softball Thomas Jefferson 9, Belle Vernon 6
After TJ went up 6-0 in the first three innings, Belle Vernon put up six in the bottom of the third to knot things up at 6-6 before the Jaguars pulled away for a 9-6 victory.
Ali Chalovich had three hits and an RBI for TJ (1-1) while Morgan Alisesky posted two hits and three RBIs. Chalovich and Addi Bracco added home runs in the win.
Bracco went 3-4 as Aubrey Shaffer picked up the win on the mound after surrendering eight hits and six runs (one earned) in seven innings.
Belle Vernon’s Maddie Grisnik was tagged with the loss after giving up 12 hits and nine runs (seven earned) in the game. Lauren Van-Divner and Grisnik went 2 for 4 offensively as they each had an RBI.
Belle Vernon (2-3) is back in action Friday at Southmoreland and TJ will host South Park the same night.
Greensburg Salem 12, Yough 1 The Golden Lions brought the Alle Scorpa show to Cougar Mountain and she didn’t disappoint as she helped her team pound the Cougars in a non-section game.
Scorpa allowed one hit in the game, that was to the Yough leadoff hitter Kierstin Odelli. From there it was smooth sailing. She only walked one batter and struck out seven in a complete game.
Offensively, Scorpa tripled, homered and drove home three runs. Marley Perrone had three hits for Greensburg Salem (3-0).
Yough freshman Jaidyn Vay got beat up in the circle. She allowed 14 hits and 12 runs (10 earned) with three walks. She struck out nine in the loss.
Hannah Olbeter (3), Cate Waugaman (2), Patty Redinger (2) and Katana Schade (2) combined for 10 Golden Lions’ RBIs.
The Cougars return home Friday against Elizabeth Forward at 4:30 p.m.
Weir (W.Va.) 10, Charleroi 2 The Red Riders scored in all but one inning and finished with 10 hits to take a non-section game across the western border.
Ariahna Blouse took the loss in the circle for the Cougars (1-2) after scattering 10 hits and allowing 10 runs. Of those 10 runs, only three were earned as the Charleroi defense committed five errors.
Charleroi hosts Ringgold today.
