Jaguars top Montour; Cal, Charleroi win

The Jaguars (2-1) took the lead for good in the top of the fourth inning on Ali Chalovich’s RBI single to left that scored Cam Noderer.
TJ added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth thanks to a two-run double by Morgan Alisesky. Alisesky came in to score on the next at-bat when Alayna Grese hit a fly ball that ended up an error.
The Spartans (0-3) added a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, but TJ’s Aubrey Shaffer was able to snuff out any hopes of a comeback.
Shaffer picked up the win with the complete game. She allowed six earned runs and struck out four.
Gabby McDowell was saddled with the loss for the Spartans. She allowed nine runs, four earned, and walked six.
Alisesky, Chalovich and Sophie Janosko had RBIs for the Jaguars. Noderer had a team-high three hits.
Hailey Staub had two hits for Montour.
The Jaguars are back home Friday against Class 3A power South Park. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
California 8, Beth-Center 3 The Trojans finished with 10 hits as Kayla Saeli doubled twice and drove in three runs to push their way to a win over rival Beth-Center Wednesday.
Gabbi Luncinski threw a complete game to get the win for California. She scattered five hits and allowed three runs, just one was earned.
Avery Filby, Aubrey Dearinger and Luncinski each finished with two hits. Dearinger joined Saeli with three RBIs.
The Trojans are at home Friday against Monessen.
Seton LaSalle 7, West Mifflin 3
The Rebels got to Titans starter Rylie Dobnak in the sixth inning, as they scored all their runs over the final two frames in a non-section win.
Meadow Kennard had two hits and an RBI for the Rebels (1-2). Mariya Chajkowski and Layla Chapman each doubled in the win.
Chapman pitched four innings of relief to get the win, allowing two hits and an unearned run.
Dobnak went six innings and allowed four runs. Only one was unearned as the Titans’ defense committed three errors. She struck out five.
West Mifflin (2-2) is back in action Saturday at home against Plum.
Charleroi 14, Ringgold 8 Lyla Brunner went 4 for 4 with a double and triple, and Ariahna Blouse added three singles and a double as the Cougars rolled past neighboring Ringgold Wednesday.
Payton Huweart finished with three hits for the Cougars (2-2).
Huweart got the win in the circle for Charleroi, scattering five hits and allowing three runs. Ringgold’s Addy Jenkins, Annie Pelissero and Addy Allen each doubled for the Rams (0-6).
Jules Campa had a pair of hits and three RBIs to lead the Rams’ offense. Alice Ramous drove in a pair of runs in the loss.
The Cougars host Frazier Saturday, while the Rams host Laurel Highlands on Monday.
Penn Hills 12, McKeesport 1
London Seymore had three hits, including a homer, and finished with six RBIs as the Indians mercy ruled the Tigers in a brisk non-section contest Wednesday.
Addison Helsel and Keira Kaefer each added two hits for Penn Hills (2-3), which finished with 13 hits as a team.
Izzy Decarlo got the win, throwing five innings and allowing only two hits – doubles by the Tigers’ Jess Miller and Kendel Bercik.
McKeesport (1-1) travels to Seton LaSalle Friday.
Baseball Burrell 9, Yough 5
The Bucs scored seven runs in the top of the first inning, plenty to get past the Cougars on Cougar Mountain Wednesday.
Ryan Wass had a pair of hits for Burrell (2-2) including a double and drove in four runs to lead the Bucs’ offense.
David Kleckner also added two hits. Aidan Shaffer was hit with the loss for Yough after allowing six hits and seven runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Jayden Huber had three hits for Yough and teammate Nate Bell added two hits with a double and two RBIs.
Stephen Hasson got the win after scattering nine hits and allowing three runs with five strikeouts in five innings.
The Cougars are scheduled to host Elizabeth Forward today at 4 p.m.

The Bentworth boys and girls track teams had mixed results in a quad-meet with Monessen, Brownsville and Waynesburg Central.
First-place finishers for the Bearcats were Jesse Laskey (1,600m, 800m), Megan Keturakis (300 hurdles), Delilah Luketich (3,200m) and Elizabeth Wade (javelin).
The 4x800m relay team of Laskey, Madelyn Johns, Riley Nicholls and Brielle Dillon won their event.
Aiden McMurray was the lone winner for the Bearcat boys.

The Valley had a number of first-place finishers in a quadmeet Tuesday at California as the Trojans hosted Beth-Center, Charleroi and West Greene.
Winners for the Trojans included Lee Qualk (100, long jump), Alan Dennis (200), Carter Kent (800), Niamh McClaflin (1,600), Christian Ross (pole vault, triple jump), Matthew Miller (shot put, discus) and Andrew Typovsky (javelin).
The boys 4×100 relay team won its event, three seconds better than Beth-Center.
California’s girls team was led by wins from Morgan Ross (100, long jump), Lauren Hartley (800), Lucia Meiss (3,200), Ella Neil (high jump, triple jump) and Peyton Sunderman (discus).
Charleroi winners on the boys side included Jamael Payne (400) and Braedin Lunger (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, high jump).
The Cougar girls had wins from Eden Smith (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Lauren Leonetti (pole vault).
