The Frazier softball team put a lackluster performance in their season opener behind them with an offensive showcase Saturday, rolling past Charleroi, 13-1.
Despite Charleroi taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Commodores responded with an explosive second inning and never looked back.
The Cougars (2-3) got on the board first when Avery Pendo tagged up on a fly out from Ariahna Blouse to score, giving the Cougars a brief 1-0 lead.
However, Frazier stormed ahead in the top of the second, racking up five runs on five hits.
Emme Travalena reached on an error at short by Pendo and moved to second on Morgan Fisher’s ground out. Gracen Hartman followed with her first hit of the season, followed by Malana Burton’s triple past Cougars right fielder Rya DiPietrantonio, swinging the momentum and giving the Commodores a 2-1 lead.
Zoe Zurenski slapped a single to score Burton and Grace Vaughn blooped an RBI single to right to make it 5-1.
Frazier piled on six more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a tworun homer from Vaughn. Travalena, Addison Hiles and Zurenski also contributed key RBI hits in the inning, widening the gap to 11-1.
Hiles was dominant in the circle for Frazier, allowing just two hits and one run over five innings while striking out six. She did allow three walks.
On the other side, Charleroi’s Payton Huweart battled through five innings but faced a relentless Frazier offense, surrendering 18 hits to get the loss.
Zurenski and Burton each collected three hits. Vaughn and Zurenski led the charge with three RBIs apiece, while Grace Polkabla, Hiles, Hartman, and Travalena all had multi-hit performances.
For the Cougars, Blouse and Lyla Brunner accounted for their team’s hits.
