Dobnak shuts out Leopards

Unfortunately for the Leopards, they’re now in an early hole to open the section season.
Rylie Dobnak was dominant in the circle for the Titans (3-3, 1-0), tossing a complete game with 15 strikeouts to lead her team to the win. She scattered four hits and was able to overcome five walks to get the win.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Mia Bey ripped a double down the left-field line to score Rylie Dobnak. Bella Simak followed with a single to center off BVA starter Maddie Grisnik to make it 2-0.
Grisnik gave a gutsy effort in the circle for the Leopards (2-4, 0-1). She was able to hold down the Titans’ offense despite allowing 10 hits. She struck out six.
Breezy Dobnak, Kaleigh Tatters and Rylie Dobnak each had doubles for the Titans.
Mailey Hayes led Belle Vernon’s offense, going 2 for 2 with a single and a double.
Both teams will now face Uniontown in their next games. The Leopards will host the Red Raiders Wednesday at Tom Rodriguez Field at 4 p.m. with the Titans traveling to Uniontown Friday at 6 p.m.
South Park 2, Bentworth 0
Emma Hays smashed a two-run homer off of the Bearcats’ Willow Eckels and that was the difference as the Eagles and Bearcats battled in non-section play Monday.
Sydney Sekely got the win for South Park (50). She scattered five hits and struck out 12 in the victory.
Willow Eckels got the loss for the Bearcats (33) after throwing three innings of relief of starting hurler Sydney Gonglik.
Eckels allowed three hits and the two runs. Gonglik had allowed one hit and struck out six in three innings. She threw 51 pitches.
Gonglik also doubled for Bentworth. The Bearcats jump into section play Thursday when they travel to Waynesburg Central.
Eliz. Forward 15, Uniontown 3 The Warriors scored in every inning to blow past the Red Raiders in a Section 2-4A opener in Fayette County.
Berlyn Holibaugh and Julia Resnik each had four hits to lead the Warriors’ offense. Resnik homered and doubled, and Alivia Grimm added a single and homer in the win.
Grimm and Holibaugh each finished with a team-high four RBIs. Teammates Julia Johnson and Aubri Cimba each drove in a pair of runs.
Graci Rodeheaver and Emmaleigh Noah had two hits for Uniontown (2-3, 0-1). Lauren White added a solo homer.
Johnson picked up the win in the circle after throwing six innings. She scattered five hits and three runs with five strikeouts.
The Warriors (3-1, 1-0) will host Ringgold Wednesday in their home opener.
Baseball Shady Side Academy 5, South Allegheny 3
The Bulldogs got a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single to score two runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull out a 5-3 win over the Gladiators (1-4, 0-1) in both teams’ Section 2-3A opener.
Dillon Pomocki took the loss. Soren Cooper got the win for the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-0) after allowing a lone hit in two innings pitched. Caleb Jackowski had a pair of hits for the Gladiators, including a double and an RBI. Pomocki and Ryan Cortes each drove in runs for SA.
The two teams meet again today at Shady Side.
Eden Christian 10, Serra Catholic 5
The Eagles carried a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning before everything went downhill.
Serra Catholic committed four errors in the frame and the Warriors (6-0, 3-0) tattooed Eagles’ starter Owen Dumbroski to the tune of three doubles, two triples and a single in the inning.
When all was said and done, Dumbroski allowed 10 runs, but only two were earned. He ended up throwing six innings and allowing nine hits. He struck out seven.
Jacob Janicki and Noah Emswiler each had two hits with a double and triple with the pair combining for five RBIs.
Brett Feldman and Brady Hull each finished with two hits for Eden Christian.
The Eagles (5-2, 2-1) had six hits in the game. Three went for doubles with Max Black, Dumbroski and Jake Holmes notching two-baggers.
The teams will be back in action today in Port Vue at 4 p.m.
Gateway 15, McKeesport 0 The Gators roughed up Tigers’ pitching for 10 hits over two innings and piled on the runs to get a three-inning win in Section 4-5A.
Jon Saunders didn’t allow a hit on the mound for Gateway (4-1, 1-0). Offensively, the Gators were led by three hits and three RBIs from Ryan Deselich and two hits, a single and triple, from Roman Jennings. He finished with three RBIs.
Tommy Minnick got the loss for McKeesport.
The two teams meet today at Helen Richey Field for Game 2 of the series.
West Mifflin 4, Yough 1
Jackson Fite twirled a gem, not allowing a hit through six innings as the Titans (5-3) knocked off the Cougars (04) in a non-section game at the Titans’ field.
Chase Maggio and Nate Fleming each had two hits and Jayvon Thompson added a triple to lead the offense for the Titans.
Caden Wills and Fleming each had RBIs.
Thompson pitched the top of the seventh to get the save for West Mifflin. He allowed one run on one hit.
Jake Williams took the loss for the Cougars. He allowed eight hits and four earned runs through five innings.
The Titans are back in action Friday at Thomas Jefferson. The Cougars are back on the field Monday for a section game at rival Southmoreland.
