The Highlanders (5-3, 2-1) opened the scoring in the first inning on Sam Stout’s RBI double to make it 1-0.
They added to their lead in the third when Preston Hornak smacked a bases-loaded double to left. Hornak came in to score on a Brogan Meighen single to make it 5-0.the score higher.
McGuffey starting pitcher Reno Presto dominated the Cougars’ lineup, throwing 6 2/3 innings, allowing one hit. He struck out seven and walked seven.
McGuffey’s defense was solid, turning one double play without an error.
Jake Corrin got the loss for the Cougars (5-2, 3-1). Corrin pitched four innings, giving up six hits and five runs, four of them earned. He struck out five and walked three.
Jace Pager had the lone hit for Charleroi. The teams are scheduled to meet today at Vets Field.
Avonworth 12, South Allegheny 0 The Antelopes ran their winning streak to seven straight games and haven’t allowed a run in four straight after blowing out the Gladiators (2-5, 1-2) Monday.
Patrick Bykowski had two hits, including a grand slam in the 10-run bottom of the fifth inning to end the game on the mercy rule.
Cooper Scharding got the win on the mound after tossing a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts. He added a homer and drove in a pair of runs. Mason Metz added two hits for Avonworth (9-1, 3-0).
Josh Nesky had a double for one of the two South Allegheny Hunter Fulmer took the loss after 4 1/3 innings. He scattered nine hits and allowed eight runs.
The two teams are scheduled to face off today at South Allegheny.

The Titans swept the Red Raiders in a chilly doubleheader Tuesday on the new turf at West Mifflin.
In Game 1, Jake Martina allowed one hit and no earned runs over four innings to get the win.
Jayvon Thompson had two hits, including a triple and a pair of RBIs. Derek Tudek and Mario Cutillo each had a pair of hits. Hunter Horne and Braeden Andzelik each doubled and had two RBIs.
Caleb Bartok got the loss after throwing 4 2/3 innings and allowing 12 runs, 10 earned. He walked five and allowed 12 hits.
Game 2 saw the Titans jump out to a 13-0 lead by the end of the third inning.
Andzelik tripled and finished with three RBIs, and Derek Tudek singled and doubled to drive in three to lead the offense.
Jackson Fite threw three innings and allowed only two hits with five strikeouts.
Chase Maggio, Eli Kurta, James Moneck and Joe Janisin each drove in a run for the Titans (8-3, 4-0).
Lane Smiley took the loss on the mound for the Red Raiders (1-5, 0-4).
West Mifflin returns home Friday to host South Allegheny.

The Titans needed just over an hour to roll past the Rams Monday in a Section 2-4A contest at Titans Field.
Rylie Dobnak threw four no-hit inning and Annabelle Graham allowed a lone hit in the fifth to combine on a one-hit shutout.
Dobnak added a homer and three RBIs with the bat and Adilee Salopek added a pair of hits and two RBIs. Samantha Tomko had two hits and Abby Jakubovic drove in a pair of runs.
The game was 2-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Titans (5-3, 3-0) scored 10 runs.
Annie Pelissero took the loss after going 3 2/3 innings and allowing eight runs, three earned, on seven hits.
The Titans are back in action Wednesday on the road at Oakland Catholic. The Rams (0-9, 0-3) are scheduled to host Uniontown the same day.
