Indrusaitis is the second Cyclone to join the Pitt program in last few days.
The process of rebuilding Pitt’s roster continued to go through Ames, Iowa, on Monday when former Iowa State freshman Nojus Indrusaitis committed to coach Jeff Capel.
Indrusaitis, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard from Lithuania, will join Iowa State teammate and center Dishon Jackson, who pledged Friday to enroll at Pitt.
Capel landed Indrusaitis two days after third-team All-ACC guard Jaland Lowe transferred to Kentucky from the transfer portal. Lowe is the fifth Pitt player to enter the portal this offseason.
Signing multiple players at all positions is Capel’s most immediate challenge after he also lost guards Damian Dunn and Ishmael Leggett and forward Zack Austin when their eligibility expired.
Indrusaitis, who will turn 19 on April 25, played in only 15 games for Iowa State this season while the Cyclones (25-10, 13-7) finished fifth in the Big 12. Iowa State advanced to the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament where it lost to Ole Miss, 91-78.
In those 15 games, Indrusaitis averaged 2.1 points and 5.8 minutes. But he became a four-star prospect during his senior season at Lemont Brewster (N.H.) Academy where he was named the New Hampshire Gatorade Player of the Year for a team that finished 27-7.
A Chicago native, Indrusaitis played his junior season at St. Rita High School, where he averaged 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals per game while leading his team to the Chicago Catholic League Championship.
Indrusaitis comes to Pitt with international experience after playing for Lithuania’s U18 FIBA team. He also earned a gold medal with the Lithuanian National Team at the 2022 FIBA U16 European Championship where he was named to the all-tournament team.
Plus, he played for Nike Meanstreets on the EYBL circuit, and two years ago, he was named MVP at the Basketball Without Borders Europe Camp.
Signing Jackson and Indrusaitis early in April gives them time to acclimate to Capel’s culture and meet and practice with his teammates over the spring and summer months.
