Carl J. Watson, 49, of Monessen, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025. The son of the late Robert Watson and Marla Burke, who surv ives and resides in Han cock, Mich., he was born on July 2, 1975, in Baltimore, Md. Carl J. Watson, 49, of Monessen, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025. The son of the late Robert Watson and Marla Burke, who surv ives and resides in Han cock, Mich., he was born on July 2, 1975, in Baltimore, Md. Formerly of Penn, Carl has been a resident of Monessen for the past three years. He was Lutheran by faith and a member of Monessen Hilltop Fire Department #2, Station 81-2, where he served as the fire captain and on the executive board. He was also a former member of the Penn Boro Fire Department, Station 94. Carl had currently been employed at McKnight Medical and was a former dispatcher for both Armstrong and Westmoreland counties. He served in the United States Army from 2001 to 2014. He began his career at Fort Drum, N.Y., from 2001 to 2003 and from there, he was deployed on a peacekeeping mission to Kosovo, before serving in Alaska at Fort Wainwright for 6 ½ years. Carl did two tours in Iraq, first from 2005 to 2006 and again from 2008 to 2009, where he received his combat medic badge. His next assignment was at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Md., from 2009 to 2012. He served in Korea from 2012 to 2013 and finished his military career at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2014. He is survived by his wife, Lorena Morgan Watson, and they would have celebrated 26 years of marriage on June 26 of this year; his stepmother, Charlotte Watson of Maryland; a daughter, Madison Watson at home; two sons, Shane Watson and Dakota Watson, both of Monessen; a sister, Jill (Daryl) Garr of Virginia; two stepsisters, Laura Mamaril and Tina Mamaril; and a stepbrother, Genaro Mamaril Jr. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, and again from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-9295300, www.FergusonFuner-alHomeandCrematory. com. Members of the Monessen Hilltop Fire Department will meet in the funeral home at 3 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2025, with the Rev. Rebecca Dittenhafer officiating. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
