Back in January, he won the 60-meter dash at the Ashland Invitational with a time of 6.73 seconds.
It was the fastest time in the PSAC since 2020 and was the 11th fastest time in the nation during the winter season.
The junior is currently in the spring season now for The Rock and looking to continue building on an impressive resume.
He’s a one-time national qualifier, a four-time coaches All-Region selection, a four-time PSAC champion, was named All-PSAC four times and is a three-time PSAC Championship qualifier.
He was part of the first-place 4×100 relay team for SRU at the Ed Fry Invitational. The group featured Thompson in the anchor leg with teammates Benny Whitaker, AJ Virata and Matthew Crow. The team crossed the finish line with a time of 41.78s.
The group beat that time at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State. They finished sixth overall with a time of 40.50s and were one of two NCAA Division II teams in the top 10.
Thompson and Slippery Rock are scheduled to compete at the Susquehanna Multi event Thursday and Friday.
Conte having big season at Cal
California graduate Payton Conte is having another standout season with the California University baseball team.
In Monday’s doubleheader sweep over Clarion, Conte went 2 for 4 in the second game with a homer and two RBIs.
The former Trojan is hitting .410 this season with five home runs and a team-high 37 RBIs. He’s second on the team in runs scored with 32 and has a slugging percentage of .650.
For his play at the end of March, Conte was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Hitter of the Week on March 27.
Telegdy filling up stat sheet at Seton Hill
Elizabeth Forward graduate Shelby Telegdy has adjusted nicely to college softball at Seton Hill.
The freshman is hitting .372 so far this season and is time for the team lead with six home runs and 24 RBIs.
She’s started 22 of 26 games so far for the Griffins (17-13, 11-5).
In the circle, she’s started a team-high 15 games this season. She has a 7-7 record with 12 complete games and a 3.16 ERA with 59 strikeouts.
In a doubleheader loss to Gannon last week, Telegdy was 2 for 5 with a homer and two RBIs.
Two days prior, she was 3 for 5 in a doubleheader against Pitt-Johnstown.
Against Slippery Rock on March 29, Telegdy pitched six innings and matched her career high with seven Ks.
Lessman bringing bat for PSF
Ringgold graduate Remington Lessman has been a bright spot in head coach Ryan Encapera’s lineup, despite the season not going as planned for the Lions.
Lessman sports a .353 batting average for Penn State Fayette and leads the way with a team-leading 16 RBIs. In 18 games, Lessman has scored eight runs and owns three doubles and 13 walks drawn.
