Mincin shines with perfection as Rams sweep Colonials

Ashton Mincin was lights out in Game 1, tossing a five-inning perfect game as the Rams rolled to an 11-0 win.
Kennedy Nash singled and doubled and led the way with three RBIs for the Ringgold (3-6, 2-3) offense. Sam Allen had a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Demetri Lowe added a double and single for the winners.
Mincin struck out five and didn’t walk a batter in the win.
The big inning for the Rams was a nine-run fourth inning as Brandon Cole, Skyler Mucci, Nash and Allen all had RBI singles.
Jimmy Nash drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI and Lowe was able to score on an error.
Jason Myers was tagged for all 11 runs for Albert Gallatin (0-4, 0-3) in the loss.
Ringgold 10, Albert Gallatin 0 (G2)
Anthony Koziel allowed a lone hit on the mound to get the win and Gavin Angotti had a pair of doubles and three RBIs as the Rams trucked the Colonials (0-5, 0-4) to get a doubleheader sweep.
Demetri Lowe doubled and singled and Andrew Sprinkle tripled with two RBIs for the Ringgold (4-6, 3-3) offense.
Kennedy Nash, Alex Kolano, Lowe and Michael Green each had RBIs for Ringgold.
The Rams are scheduled to host Greensburg Salem today at 4 p.m. for a non-section contest.
Belle Vernon 12, Laurel Highlands 4 (G1)
The Leopards got another stellar outing from Kent St. recruit Parker Lind as they rolled over the Mustangs in Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday.
Lind tossed 5 2/3 innings and allowed only two hits while striking out eight.
Cole Matusik and Kole Doppelheuer each had two hits with Doppelheuer having a triple, single and three RBIs. Matusik tripled and doubled.
Lucas Judy had a double and three RBIs for the Leopards (6-0, 5-0).
Nick Fleszar got the loss for LH (1-4, 0-3) after allowing seven runs – four earned – over four innings.
Brody Kutchman drove in a pair of runs for the Mustangs.
Belle Vernon 9, Laurel Highlands 2 (G2)
The Leopards jumped out to a 9-0 lead before the Mustangs put up two runs in the top of the seventh inning as BVA claimed a doubleheader sweep.
Lucas Judy threw a complete game and allowed seven hits and two runs, none earned, with six strikeouts to earn the win on the mound.
Seth Tomalski had a double, single and team-high three RBIs for the Leopards (7-0, 6-0). Judy helped himself with three hits, including a double and RBI.
Connor Bergman and Alonzo Wade each drove in runs for BVA.
Noah Lion got the loss on the mound for the Mustangs (1-5, 0-4). He allowed six earned runs, eight total, on eight hits in three innings.
Brody Kutchman had a double and RBI for LH.
The Leopards are back in action today with a scheduled non-section game at Serra Catholic.
Fort Cherry 13, Frazier 4 (G1)
Colton Temple was a one-man wrecking crew for the Rangers as he raked four hits, including a homer and double, and had three RBIs as the Rangers picked up a win in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
Tyler Wolfe had three hits, including a homer, and drove in five runs for Fort Cherry (4-4, 4-1). Temple was the winning pitcher after scattering nine hits and allowing four runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Ryan Huey had a pair of doubles and two RBIs.
Aidan Hardy got the loss for the Commodores (4-3, 1-2) after allowing seven runs on nine hits through five innings.
Tyler Morrison had three hits and Hardy drove in a pair of runs for Frazier.
In Game 2, the Rangers were leading 7-0 in the fourth inning when the game was called due to darkness.
The Commodores will head back to Fort Cherry at a date to be announced to finish the contest.
Sewickley Academy 15, Monessen 0 (5)
The Greyhounds committed a whopping 11 errors and RJ DiEugenio had their lone hit as the Panthers ran wild to a Section 3-1A win.
Billy Pietragallo and Austin Fritz each had two hits with Pietragallo finishing with a homer and three RBIs.
Fritz got the win after allowing the lone hit and seven strikeouts.
DiEugenio took the loss after allowing 14 runs, only two were earned with all the errors.
The Greyhounds (0-8, 0-5) will travel to face Washington at EQT Park Monday at 4 p.m.
Yough 8, Southmoreland 1 (G1)
The Cougars picked up their long-awaited first win of the season by beating their rivals to open a doubleheader.
Nate Bell pitched Yough (1-6, 1-2) to the win as he threw six innings and 10 strikeouts. He allowed one earned run on three hits.
He added a pair of hits and an RBI at the plate. Jayden Huber added a pair of hits and RBIs and Gabe Shakoske drove in a pair of runs and doubled.
Bredon Geho took the loss for Southmoreland (1-7, 0-5). He doubled at the plate and drove in the only Scotties run.
Yough 6, Southmoreland 2 (G2) Nate Bell had three hits and drove in three, and Raidon Kuroda had a pair of RBIs as the Cougars (26, 2-2) scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to sweep Wednesday’s doubleheader.
Jake Williams pitched his team to the win after lasting six innings and allowing only two earned runs on six hits.
The Cougars are back in action Monday on the road at Mt. Pleasant.
Chartiers-Houston 18, Bentworth 8 (G1)
Paul Williamson, Aaron Walsh and JJ Livingston combined for 10 hits as the Bucs rolled to a six-inning win over the Bearcats to open Wednesday’s doubleheader.
Livingston and Williamson each had four RBIs and Walsh drove in three.
For the game, the Bucs (5-1, 3-1) pounded out 21 hits.
Lucas Burt and Sam Wade each had two hits for Bentworth (1-5, 1-4).
Bentworth 6, Chartiers-Houston 3 (G2)
Lucas Burt tripled and homered in support of Sam Wade on the mound as the Bearcats (2-5, 2-4) salvaged a split with the Bucs in Wednesday’s doubleheader.
Wade tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts to get the win. He also had a pair of hits and drove in two.
Cameron Krejci and Burt each drove in two runs for Bentworth (2-5, 2-4).
JJ Livingston had a pair of hits for the Bucs (5-2, 3-2). Dom Cumer picked up the loss after allowing six runs, three earned, through 5 1/3 innings.
Bentworth travels to California for a section matchup Monday.
California 10, Beth-Center 6
Kaden Weston had four hits and two RBIs and Weston Monticelli had three hits and three RBIs as the Trojans (3-3-1, 3-0) swept the season series from rival Beth-Center.
Caden Monticelli and Logan Hartley each added doubles for California. Caden Monticelli had two RBIs.
Weston Monticelli got the win after throwing 6 1/3 innings. He scattered five hits and allowed three runs, two earned.
Luke Amon had two hits for the Bulldogs (2-4, 1-4).
The Trojans host Bentworth Monday.
Avonworth 15, South Allegheny 4
Mason Metz homered twice to finish with three RBIs and Cooper Scharding doubled and homered to finish with three RBIs of his own as the Antelopes (9-1, 4-0) rocked the Gladiators (4-6-1, 1-3).
Carson Franc doubled twice and added three RBIs and Michael Libbon drove in four runs for Avonworth.
Adam Jackowski got roughed up in the loss for the Gladiators. He lasted only an inning and was charged with nine earned runs on seven hits.
The Gladiators will travel to West Mifflin Friday for a non-section game.
Softball Frazier 6, Brownsville 0
Freshman Emme Travalena hit a pair of two-run homers and added a “Little League” homer on a double and an error to help the Commodores to a shut-out win over the Falcons at Commodore Park.
Grace Vaughn added a double and an insidethe- park homer and an RBI for Frazier (5-1).
Ava Clark was the lone bright spot for the Falcons (3-3, 0-1) as she mowed down 15 Commodore batters in the loss.
Addison Hiles picked up the win for Frazier as she scattered five hits and struck out eight, pitching her way out of a couple jams in the late innings.
The Commodores are back in section play today when they travel to Washington for a 3 p.m. start.
Belle Vernon 7 Laurel Highlands 6 (9)
After watching their 6-1 lead slip away as the Mustangs scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Leopards picked up a run in the top of the ninth to deal LH its first section loss of the season.
Maddie Grisnik picked up the win after throwing all nine innings and striking out 11 batters. At the plate, Grisnik had three hits and an RBI. Kaylee Sypolt doubled and singled and Mia Zubovic had a pair of singles for BVA (4-5, 2-1). Mailey Hayes and Sydney Callaway each drove in a pair of runs.
The Leopards are back in action today at Ringgold.
Thomas Jefferson 16, Peters Township 2
The Jaguars hammered out 18 hits and scored 14 runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings to blow by the Indians in Section 4-5A play.
Ali Chalovich singled, doubled and homered for the Jaguars (5-2, 3-1) and Rylee Nemchek had three hits and three RBIs. Addi Bracco added two hits and three RBIs.
Aubrey Shaffer got the win after throwing four shutout innings.
Laney Mountain went the whole way for the Indians (2-6, 0-4) in the loss.
Uniontown 12, Ringgold 1 (5) Emmaleigh Noah had three hits and allowed only three hits in the circle to get the win for the Red Raiders in a section victory over the Rams (0-10, 0-4).
Graci Rodeheaver and Lauren White each had two hits for Uniontown (3-4, 1-2).
Megan Powell homered for her team’s only run. She allowed 13 hits and 10 earned runs in the loss.
Addy Allen added a double for Ringgold. The Rams will look to stop their losing skid today when they host rival Belle Vernon.
South Allegheny 21, Springdale 1
The Gladiators may have burned out some bulbs on the Dynamos scoreboard after lighting it up for a Section 2-2A win.
Emma Jackson, Cam Colecchi and Carrera Conley each finished with three hits to lead the Glads’ 19-hit attack.
Conley and Jackson each doubled and tripled with Conley driving in four runs.
Ava Brown and Colecchi added triples and Bailey Dececco and Sydney Gordon each added doubles in the win.
Cadence McBride smashed a homer and finished with three RBIs on her two-hit day.
Conley got the win and didn’t allow a hit in the three-inning contest. She struck out eight.
The Gladiators will travel to Northgate today.
Bentworth 12, California 1 (5) Sydney Gonglik had four RBIs and a pair of triples, and Zoie McDonald doubled, singled and drove in a pair of runs as the Bearcats opened their section schedule with a win.
Hailey Tatar and Kayla O’Dell each had two hits and drove in a run for Bentworth.
Willow Eckels got the win in the circle after allowing six hits and a lone run.
Madyson Morton and Kayla Saeli each had two hits for the Trojans (2-4, 0-2). Avery Filby drove in their only run.
Bentworth (4-3, 1-0) is back in section play Friday at Brownsville. The Trojans will travel to Waynesburg today.
Serra Catholic 15, Leechburg 3 The Eagles (1-4, 1-0) picked up their first win under new head coach Julie Opferman as they hammered host Leechburg Wednesday in a Section 3-1A contest.
Kelly Morrissey tossed a complete game with 13 strikeouts, allowing only one earned run.
Alonna Morton, Keyara Watkins, Morrissey, Johanna Domek and Bianca Gajdos each had two hits for Serra Catholic. Watkins had a double.
Addie Zanotto homered for the Blue Devils (3-3, 1-1), who committed nine errors on defense.
The Eagles host Jeannette Friday at 4 p.m.
Southmoreland 7, Yough 4
Riley Puckey went 4 for 5 and Makayla Etling and Taryn Hollis each had three hits as the Scotties (3-2, 1-0) picked up a Section 1-3A win on Cougar Mountain.
Jaidyn Vay took the loss for the Cougars (23, 0-1) as she went the distance and allowed 14 hits and seven earned runs.
Kierstin and Kylee Odelli and Payton Jenkins each had two hits for the Yough offense.
The Cougars will host Burrell today at 4:30 p.m.
West Mifflin 13, Oakland Cath. 4 Kaleigh Tatters had three hits, including a double, and drove in four runs as the Titans (6-3, 4-0) earned a Section 2-4A win over the visiting Eagles to extend their winning streak to four games.
Adilee Salobek and Breezy Dobnak each had two hits for West Mifflin.
Rylie Dobnak got the win after throwing three no-hit innings with four Ks.
Madison Pullen singled, doubled and had two RBIs for Oakland Catholic (1-4, 0-3).
West Mifflin goes to Laurel Highlands Friday.
Kiski Area 16, McKeesport 9 Alyssa Perona went 5 for 5 and hit for the cycle as the Cavaliers outslugged the Tigers in Section 4-5A action.
Perona had a single, two doubles, triple and homer to finish with a game-high five RBIs in the win.
Kiski (2-5, 2-2) finished with 10 extra-base hits.
Ryenn Thomas, who got the loss in the circle, had three hits and Jess Miller had a pair, including a homer. Kendel Bercik had a teamhigh three runs batted in for McKeesport. (14, 0-3).
The Tigers are back in action today on the road at Penn-Trafford.
