Leopards sweep past Warriors; Bearcats split

The Belle Vernon Area track team picked up a sweep of Elizabeth Forward Wednesday, with the Leopard girls remaining unbeaten early in the season.
The Leopard boys topped the Warriors, 83-74, with the BVA girls picking up a 105-47 win.
Individual winners for the boys included Robert Allshouse (200m), Anthony Ricciuti (800m), Sam Ruschak (1,600), Riley Nemosek (3,200) and Jacob Ziolkowski (300 hurdles).
Chase Mertz won the long jump (20’) and the triple jump (40-5 1/2).
Ryan Kent was a dual winner in the javelin (149-9) and discus (148-4).
The boys 4×100 relay team of Dominic Congelio, Allshouse, Trevor Kovatch and Mertz, won their event. The team of Ziolkowski, Leonidas Soto, Ruschak and Logan Metzger won the 4×800 relay.
The BVA boys moved to 2-1 on the season.
The Leopard girls (3-0) were led by a trio of victories each by Courtney Martin and Brooklyn Steeber.
Martin won the 100 (13.34s), 100 hurdles (15.93) and 300 hurdles (54.18).
Steeber picked up wins in the 800 (2:35), 1,600 (6:08) and the 3,200 (14:54).
Grace West (200, 29.10) and Bella Tatar (400, 1:09) were other sprint winners for the Leopards.
The 4×100 relay team of Tayshia Harvey, Marissa Naylor, West and Martin finished first. The 4×800 team of Lizzy Tatar, Steeber, Lily Walsh and Bella Tatar were winners as well.
In the field events, Leopards to get wins were Eternal Joy in the long jump (14-2), Naylor in the high jump (4-6) and Skylar Salay (discus, 71’).
The Leps are back in action today at the Latrobe Invitational.
Results for the Warriors were not reported.

In a quad meet with California, Beth-Center and Waynesburg Central, the Bearcats picked up three wins.
While the Bearcat boys tied with Beth-Center, they were awarded the win thanks to a 9-8 edge in firstplace finishers.
Overall first-place winners for the Bearcats included the 4×800 relay team of Madelyn Johns, Riley Nicholls, Jesse Laskey and Brielle Dillon. The 4×400 relay team of Megan Keturakis, Emme Orsatti, Nicholls and Johns also picked up a win.
Laskey added wins in the 1,600 (6:13.48) and 800 (2:45.79). Johns won the 400 with a time of 1:08.02.
Delilah Luketich won the 3,200 with a time of 15:05.06, and Elizabeth Wade won the javelin with a toss of 94 feet.
The Bearcats will take part in the Chartiers-Houston Invitational on Saturday.
GCC 97, Yough 44 (B) Lig.Valley 87, Yough 57 (B) GCC 97, Yough 32 (G) LigValley 103, Yough 29 (G) The Cougars came out on the losing end of a sweep by Greensburg Central Catholic and Ligonier Valley during tri-meet Wednesday on Cougar Mountain.
High finishers for the Yough boys included Garrett Hummel, who finished second overall in the 800 and 1,600. Luke Vinoski was second overall in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.
Corbin Reinstadtler took home second place in the shot put, and Adam Stangroom (second) and Ian Toman (second) were top finishers in the long jump and triple jump.
For the Cougar girls, Carly Fitzgibbons set a personal record in both the shot put (29-10) and discus (67-03), taking second in both events.
Caliope Young finished second with a leap of 4-6 in the high jump.
The Cougars will head to the Latrobe invitational today.
