The former McKeesport Daily News building was once again on the agenda at a special city council meeting Wednesday night.
Mayor Michael Cherepko announced the first official tenant’s goal will be “to curb an addiction to crime and violence.”
Council unanimously voted to award a $195,000 contract to McKeesport-based Kucich Construction to “completely retrofit” a section of the building Cherepko said will house an Allegheny County District Attorney’s warrant office. The office will be run by District Attorney Stephen Zappala.
Cherepko said the Warrant Office will serve as the building’s anchor tenant. It will be located on the rear side of the first floor.
Renovations won’t be finished until late fall, according to Cherepko.
Renovations will be funded through $300,000 in grant money. Of that amount, $200,000 came from Community Infrastructure and Tourism grants. The remainder of the cash came from “a private grant entity.”
