Museum has been telling smog story for 10 years

On this day, 70 years ago, the reality of the situation began to strike Donora residents as they ventured outside into the thickest smog they had ever seen.

In 1948, a temperature inversion over the borough trapped smoke and fumes in town for five days. By the end, an estimated 26 people had died from the effects of the smog, while thousands were ill and hundreds needed medical attention, said Donora historian Brian Charlton.
