A Charleroi councilman says the future of the Magic City is on the line and a potential solution could come from following in Tube City’s footsteps.
At the close of an agenda meeting Thursday, Councilman Larry Celaschi gave a pitch he thinks could be the answer to the borough’s financial problems: Sell the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi.
“This borough has been pinching pennies for decades and we don’t have to do that any longer,” Celaschi said. “We have been given a life line, as one might say, that could give Charleroi a total rebuild.
“We have a financial tool in this borough at our disposal that will generate a one-time source of revenue that would be extremely large by doing what McKeesport did.”
The City of McKeesport finalized the sale of the Municipal Authority of the City of McKeesport to Pennsylvania American Water Co. in December 2017 for $159 million.
