Donora budget still up in the air

Donora borough council is in a race against time when it comes to finishing its 2019 budget in time.
Municipal budgets must be balanced and approved by Dec. 31 each year. A preliminary version of the budget must be on display for the public to see for 10 days prior to its final adoption.
Council has yet to review or approve a preliminary budget because the sanitation rates have not been set. Borough administrator John Bedner said the budget can’t be done without those figures.
Councilman John Conger, who is on the committee figuring out those rates, said that more work needs to be done before it can be resolved. Conger said council wasn’t able to discuss it in depth last night without committee chair Councilman Gib Szakal, who was absent from the workshop meeting.
