“Divine intervention.”
That’s what Debbie Smith believes helped her make it to the holiday season.
On Oct. 18, Smith, 60, of Forward Township suffered a massive heart attack, which nearly left her family without its matriarch.
On Thursday, Smith met Rostraver West Newton Emergency Services emergency medical technician Pam Courie and paramedic Thomas Carter — the first responders whose quick thinking and heroic actions saved her life.
The reunion, filled with many tears, laughs and hugs, was emotional for all involved.
“Do you prefer ‘Deb’ or ‘Debbie?’” Carter asked, gripping both Smith’s and Courie’s hands.
“You’re my angel, so you can call me whatever you want,” Smith said.
